West Valley College Choral & Vocal Program

This was a powerful concert with the magnificent choirs of Christopher and Gilroy High Schools. We in the WVC Choirs were honored to share this concert. We look forward to continuing to make positive statements with our music this year, even in our isolation.

We can avoid unconscious reinforcement of otherness in musical criticism and scholarship.

I am so incredibly proud of the WVC Musical Theater students, many of them members of the West Valley College Choirs, who lived up to the motto, "The show must ...go on." Days after all activities were cancelled, these students resolved to continue rehearsing and give a single performance of the production that would have closed last week. Tonight was that performance. Bravo to the actors, singers and crew of the West Valley College Musical Theater production of Stephen Sondheim's "Into the Woods," who performed via Zoom to an audience of 150 parents, friends and teachers. It wasn't a six-night run, but WOW, it was impressive! Kudos to director Amy Zsadanyi-Yale and vocal director Jacque Wilson Scharlach who also coordinates our applied voice program. The performers were well prepared, and sounded great. I have no idea how the sound was synced, but it was CLEAN! Look for the Fall launch of two new 44-unit CTE Certificates of Achievement in Musical Theater, a collaboration of the Departments of Music & Dance and Theater Arts. The two certificates provide music and theater concentrations while requiring significant music, theater and dance instruction. West Valley College is the place for musical theater, and tonight was the proof! Bravo!
