We know that 2020 hasn’t been easy. For many of us, it’s been a year marked by loss, pain, and heartache. With thanksgiving on the horizon, it can feel harder than ever to count our blessings and express our gratitude to God. If you can relate to that, you’re not alone. We’re starting a two-part message series this Sunday focusing on what gratitude looks like in a year that’s been so emotionally draining. We want you to know that it’s ok to not be okand that you have permiss...ion to experience the full range of human emotions. But at the same time, we have an unending joy in Jesus that transcends the day-to-day struggles that we experience. If you’ve lost a loved one this year, know that you are loved. If you’re hurting, know that you’re not alone. If you’re worried, know that Jesus is with you in the storm. If you’re lonely, know that you have a church family that cares for you. We want you to come be our guest this Sunday (9 or 10:30am) as we open our hearts to God and begin to heal together. We pray that these words from the Apostle Paul are a blessing to you today: May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. -Romans 15:13 (NIV)

Announcement! Both services will be inside this Sunday. Due to the cold, rainy weather forecasted for this weekend, we are moving the 9:00am Family Devotional indoors. We will keep the same format and family-friendly feel at 9:00am, followed by our 10:30am service. Masks and social distancing are required for our indoor services. The 10:30 service will be live-streamed as usual. We hope to see you this Sunday!

You're invited to join us for our next session on 1 Peter. This Wednesday at 6:30pm we'll be studying 1 Peter 1:13-2:3, taking a close look at the five key commands Peter gives us: 1. Put your hope in Jesus. 2. Be holy in all you do. 3. Live as foreigners on earth... 4. Love one another 5. Crave spiritual milk. Because of who we are in Christ, and because of what God has done, we are called to live holy lives in all we do.

Student ministry! Don't forget, koinonia tonight from 6 to 8 pm in the courtyard. We will have smores in addition to our regular activities. We hope to see you there!

The Young at Heart (ages 55 & above) will have their annual Christmas event at Hodel’s with dinner and entertainment. A deposit was placed last December to reserve the date for this year. If we were to have the event, it would be Friday, December 4 at 6pm at Hodel’s. The event is $20 per person and we have to guarantee a minimum of 25 people. In light of the issues around COVID, we need to make a commitment to Hodels and pay at least for 25 dinners at $20 each or $500 before... Thanksgiving. Because of the room size we can social distance. Questions to our Young at Heart ministry and friends (55+): Would you attend? If so, please send a check for your attendance to Westside Church of Christ, 7300 Stockdale Highway, Bakersfield, CA. 93309 so that it is received by November 20. Please note on your check Hodel Dinner. If we get to the minimum of 25, we will have the event as planned and if we don’t meet the minimum, we will refund all monies collected and cancel the event with Hodel’s.
