Thank you to our beautiful patient for sharing her journey with self harm scars. It takes an incredibly strong person to go through something like this, and an even stronger one to share her story to help other. triggering images Exactly one year ago was one of the hardest days of my life. I was hospitalized for self harm. I feel like many people don’t understand self harm or why people do it. So we tend to feel ashamed and obviously keep them hidden. The hardest part fo...r me, wasn’t actually being in the hospital or being placed on a 5150 hold. It was knowing that my entire family was going to find out and see what i was doing behind closed doors. My biggest fear was disappointing them. But lucky for me i have an amazing support system and a family who loves every bit of me and has been willing to try and understand. Depression and anxiety are no joke and it’s not something that’s simple to explain. Sometimes i simply just don’t know why i feel the way i feel. And that’s the worst part. How can you explain that to someone when you don’t even know yourself? Having those scars on my body for everyone to see was extremely hard for me. I would catch people starting and often get asked what happened?. I really don’t like to answer but my usual explanation is it’s a long story. It’s also a daily reminder of what i went through and some days it can be triggering. But to help with shame and embarrassment, i turned to @westside_aesthetics. I have been getting laser treatments for the discoloration and steroid injections for the scars that are raised. I started treatment in November and continue every 3 weeks. My scars are much less noticeable and i feel so much more confident being in shorts or a bikini.
