Hi, my name is Dr. Christine Nguyen. I am a board certified ophthalmologist and glaucoma specialist. I wanted to reintroduce myself to you all since it’s been awhile. Orange County has always been my home and I have deep ties to this community. In fact when my parents first moved to the US from Vietnam they used to live in a small apartment across the street from where our office is located now. What a small world! After high school, I went to college at USC and medical s...chool at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. I came back to Orange County to do my residency at UC Irvine and then glaucoma fellowship at UCLA. After working for a group practice in LA for a few years, I decided to open an ophthalmology practice in Westminster. I opened this practice to fulfill my personal mission of become a physician and returning to provide quality compassionate care to the community that opened their arms to my family when they first arrived here as refugees more than forty years ago. Did you know that plaquenil or hydroxychloroquine can lead to irreversible vision loss? Here’s a picture of the retina that had been damaged by hydroxychloroquine. This photo has a classic finding which we call a bulls eye. The center of the bulls eye is the only remaining healthy retina and everything surrounding it is permanently damaged. As ophthalmologists, we recommend regular screenings for patients taking hydroxychloroquine.
