Applications are now available online for 2020 law school graduates to seek provisional licensure, enabling those who have not passed a bar exam to practice law in California under the supervision of fully licensed lawyers. The initial group eligible for provisional licensure are those who graduated law school between December 1, 2019, and December 31, 2020.

California Provisional Licensing Program to Launch November 17, 2020 The California Supreme Court announced today that it approved the State Bar’s proposal for the provisional licensure of 2020 law school graduates. The new program will allow eligible 2020 law school graduates who have not passed a bar exam to apply to practice law in California as provisionally licensed lawyers under the supervision of fully licensed lawyers. The initial group eligible for provisional licensure are those who graduated law school between December 1, 2019, and December 31, 2020. Very exciting news for students who have been anxiously awaiting this program while they work on passing the #CABarExam! We are so excited to have Professor Gregg Hovey as our #Remedies Professor this upcoming Spring 2021 & Summer 2021 Quarters! He just finished teaching two great courses for our 2L/3L students - #Corporations I & II. Professor Gregg Hovey received his law degree from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. He has practiced in the areas of business, commercial real estate and technology for over thirty years. He was a member of the teaching faculty for the ...Hastings College of Advocacy, a clinical summer program providing hands on legal training for admitted attorneys. In addition to his legal background Professor Hovey also has extensive real-world business experience. He spent 5 years as the CEO of Olhausen Manufacturing Company, a recreational game room furniture manufacturer currently located in Nashville, Tennessee. Professor Hovey also produced television programming for ESPN from 2007 through 2017. See more

We are so excited to welcome Professor Cherie Enge as our #Torts Professor this upcoming Winter 2020-2021 Quarter! Cherie Enge, Esq. earned her Bachelor of Science in Political Science from the University of California San Diego and earned her Juris Doctorate from University of California Hastings College of the Law. She began her career in Civil Litigation in a small insurance defense firm in Sacramento, CA, and then relocated to Los Angeles where she gained experience in ...medical malpractice, products liability, as well as personal injury defense. Cherie is a well-rounded litigator with experience in law firm, as in-house counsel, and in private practice. She has had successful results in civil jury trials throughout Southern California, and tried over 70 cases to verdict. Cherie also serves as pro tem judge for Traffic Court and Small Claims in San Diego County since 2012. Cherie is committed to community service that includes serving on the Board of Directors for Walden Family Services, volunteering for the signature programs for the San Diego Chapter of The Links, Inc. (Links Achiever Program, Links to STEM, and National Crossroads), and assisting in the nomination and selection of scholarship recipients on behalf of The Girlfriends Fund, Inc. She provides financial support with quarterly donations of goods and services to a local women’s shelter (Rachel’s House) and a local battered woman’s shelter (Becky’s House - YWCA). Cherie serves as a mentor to high school, college, and law students, as well as young attorneys seeking guidance on trial skills. She serves as a volunteer judge for mock trials and moot court competitions at UCSD, USD Law School, and for various San Diego High School competitions. Cherie is a Master (mentor) for the J. Clifford Wallace Inn of Court; served as workshop leader for San Diego Inn of Court Trial Skills training; and presented numerous workshops on trial skills and insights on insurance defense practice for local bar associations. Through the Children at Risk Committee with the San Diego County Bar Association, Cherie has presented mock trial/criminal procedure workshops to 4th and 5th grade students within the San Diego school districts for over 10 years. Cherie most recently taught a seminar entitled Personal Injury Law From Start to Finish for Sterling Education Services, Inc., and a webinar on Damages in a Civil Lawsuit for Lawline.com, A Division of FurtherEd, Inc.

We are so excited to welcome Professor Kristen Fritz as our #CivilProcedure Professor this upcoming Fall 2020 Quarter! Kristen Marquis Fritz is an experienced civil litigation attorney licensed in CA, MA, NY and TX (inactive), who has practiced in numerous state and federal jurisdictions in a diverse range of practice areas for more than eighteen years. She is currently an attorney with Smaha Law Group, where she handles Trust, Estate and Probate matters, prepares Estate Pla...ns on behalf of her clients, counsels business clients and handles litigation, arbitration, and appeals. Kristen is also a California Licensed Professional Fiduciary (Lic. #1032) and a National Certified Guardian. In 2017, she founded Professional Fiduciaries of San Diego, Inc. to provide fiduciary and other related services to seniors and adults with disabilities, and she helps individuals and their families with decision-making, assistance concerning daily affairs, care coordination and life management, financial matters and more. Kristen also sits on the Board of Directors of Think Dignity, a non-profit whose mission is to inspire, empower, and organize our community to advance basic dignity for those experiencing homelessness. Kristen has a B.A. in Psychology and a Paralegal Certificate from Boston University, a J.D. from Northeastern University School of Law, and Certificates in Professional Fiduciary Management for Trustees and Professional Fiduciary Management for Conservators from California State University, Fullerton.

We are so excited to welcome Professor Alison Schlick as our #Contracts Professor this upcoming Fall Quarter! Alison Schlick is joining Western Sierra Law School as Professor of Contracts this Fall 2020. Ms. Schlick had a successful pre-law career as a paralegal and legal paraprofessional. She worked for a well respected construction law and plaintiff’s litigation law firm, The Ward Firm for many years. She later joined the legal department of Qualcomm’s very busy patents an...d IP group, became a Notary Public and earned many Qualstars during her employment. Ms. Schlick pursued her legal degree, earning a scholarship to attend California Western School of Law in San Diego, which she was able maintain for the duration of her studies. Graduating with honors from both UCSD as well as CWSL, this scholar and legal eagle has prioritized public service over fame and acclaim. She completed her post-bar with the City of San Diego’s Consumer and Environmental Protection Unit. She served as Minor’s Counsel with Dependency Legal Group while they wound down their firm and turned the work over to a new government contractor. Currently she serves Pro Bono as Board Secretary for Zero Waste San Diego, a local non-profit with connections to the CRRA, NCRA, ZWUSA, and global efforts towards Zero Waste. She has also mentored youth through her Zero Waste and environmental activism and through her employment with Poway Unified School District as an Instructional Aide in Special Education at Poway’s alternative High School, a second chance for youth, Abraxas High School. She was an honor’s instructor for Legal Skills in Law School and an OASIS writing tutor at UCSD. Her favorite course in law school was Contracts and her favorite student group was OWLS. She served on the OWLS board and valued the connections with other similarly situated law students who were going back to school after having already built a career and families. As inspiration, Ms. Schlick looks to Clara Shortridge Foltz, the first American woman lawyer on the West Coast. Yes, you can become a lawyer, and a darn good one, studying part-time while working or while juggling care-giving responsibilities. The #FYLSE (#BabyBar) will now take place on November 17, 2020 and will be offered online, remotely proctored. Applicants can begin to apply for the November 2020 exam on Monday, August 10. Results from the November FYLSE will be released on February 26, 2021, due to the overlap in grading with the October 2020 administration of the California Bar Exam.
