while I personally don’t understand how we got to a point where a random guy in the roofing supply business is suppling our front line medical professionals with PPE, we are more than happy to help buy some time until real support comes from the federal government and our supply chains. Over the last three weeks, we donated 15,000 3m 8210 n95 masks to local hospitals, to individual medical professionals and into their command centers. Our friends and families have chipped in and help fund this as well. People have been donating to help get these much needed supplies into the hands of our frontline medical professionals. On a normal day, these people save lives. Currently, they are putting their lives on the line to help us fight back. These folks are super heroes. We are just glad to help them get their cape on.

From the Western family, we’d like to wish Javier a happy retirement! Today was Mr. Javier’s last day at Western. He was one of the first hires here, way back in 1989. Thank you for all you have done for us. We hope you enjoy a well deserved retirement.

We started our day yesterday at 4am, picking up what turned out to be first shipment of 3M N95 masks. We ended up shutting down our normal business operations to help get these into our community. We went through 22,000 of these, 11,000 donated. ... While this is out of the normal scope of business for us as we mainly do commercial work, working with contractors on projects ranging from single family homes to the new Warriors arena, we know who our neighbors our. We know we need to lend a hand. Happy to do so when we can.

EDIT: WE HAD TO SHUT DOWN OUR NORMAL DAILY OPERATION TO GET THESE MASKS OUT. WE’VE BLOWN THROUGH OUR ORIGINAL SHIPMENT OF 12,000 ALREADY AND TRIPLED OUR DONATIONS. WE HAVE A FEW CASES LEFT FOR SALE. WE ARE TRYING TO GET MORE IN ASAP. .......................... We purchased 12,000 n95 masks. Picking them up this morning at 6:30 AM. Donating 3,000, 1,000 in SF, 1,000 in Oakland, and 1,000 in Alameda. (See City of Alameda FB page for their official statement). The rest will be available at my warehouse/business in SF for immediate sale at Western Gravel & Roofing Supply, Inc. Please note we are not a retail store. We mainly do commercial work, providing material to contractors for projects ranging from single family homes to the new Warriors arena but during this public health emergency, we are dedicating resources to get these masks into our communities. (I live in Oakland, I own a commercial building in Alameda, and I grew up in SF and our business has been operating out of the Bayview in SF since 1986.) We didn’t think we would have to do this again so soon, we donated more than 5,000 masks last year, but we have to take care of our own.

I've seen my neighborhoods transform from houses where working ...class families could prosper, to million+ dollar homes that only suit a select few. I've seen the impacts on this city through two dot com booms and two housing busts. Throughout those changes, we have operated our family owned business in District 10 for over 31 years. Shamann understands these dynamics. As the former Director of the Potrero Hill Family Resource Center and as the President of the San Francisco School Board, I believe he has the proven experience to continue creating positive change. Last week, Western Gravel & Roofing Supply, Inc. immediately donated our inventory of 3,500 masks in response to our current air quality emergency and to the communities most in need. Being a small family owned business in operation since 1986, and with the help of our partners, we are able to respond to these types of emergencies in a fraction of the time it takes the big box stores. While we are mainly a distributor for contractors and commercial work, we are open to the p...ublic. Please be safe out there.
