West End Celebration

Regardless of the negative impacts to our revenues and morale due to the extremely lengthy shelter-in-place, I truly feel that when we look back at 2020 that it will have been a good year full of positive progress and creativity for Sand City, says city manager Aaron Blair.

Sand City, California, September 16, 2020 - The Sand City Arts Committee, in partnership with artist and curator Pat Milbery, is pleased to announce we. Art, a street art and public art installation to be held in Sand City. The inaugural installation will be held September 28 October 5, 2020 and feature a unique roster of highly talented local and national artists. Two artists will collaborate on each wall, shaping a unique experience for both the artists and the ...public as they merge their individual styles to create unique public masterpieces for all to enjoy. The curation of each artist and artist pairing is designed to foster community, and put artists together who might not have the chance to work with each other. The week long mural installation brings artists together to adorn building walls, enliven streetscapes, and beautify the West End community. Onlookers can expect to see a variety of mural styles and perspectives, and even witness the creative process in action, as artists will begin creating their pieces on September 28th, Milbery stated. I think people are going to be surprised by the caliber of the public art that is produce over such short period of time. Murals create a tangible sense of place and destination, thus increasing the magnetism of the West End which will boost opportunities for our local businesses and hard-working community of artisans. I’m excited to see the creative interaction between our talented local artists and the non-local artists, City Manager Aaron Blair stated. we. art celebrates collaboration between artists, local businesses and residents, and those who join the community to celebrate Sand City.
