Neighborhood Woods

This redwood tree was planted after WW2 (1948) and is already 6 feet in diameter. These new slabs are 10' long and a lot more than I really want to lift.

An amazing pen made by my neighbor Steve Brazil from a piece of native Santa Cruz Island Ironwood - about the heaviest wood I've seen growing in the Bay Area. Who else needs one of these?

This is the piece of the puzzle that makes it all work: Bruce Adair of Contra Costa Tree, his mechanical ability and his crane. Unbelievably large logs can be cut, gently set on the bed of the crane, then loaded onto our mill with few muscles strained.
