Introducing Joe Montana, aka The Comeback Kid. Joe Montana was rescued from San Diego Humane Society where he was surrendered by his owner due to moving. He was very shut down at the shelter and looked stoic. This boy wore his emotions on his sleeve and we wondered how long it would take for him to show me us his true Boxer spirit. The name he was surrendered with was actually Montana but since arriving at WCBR, this boy made a quick comeback and busted out all the smiles and wiggles he’d been holding back. So it’s only fitting that he is named after the Legendary Comeback Kid, Joe Montana! ‘ JoMo’ is UTD on all his vaccinations and previously neutered. He weighs 70 lbs and is approximately 5 years old.

**Gus Update** It has been a while so we wanted to update all Gus' fans, followers, and supporters. There has been a lot of trial and error and ups and downs with different medication protocols to try and stabilize his IBS. At this point, he is finished with his medication trial and once the 3-week break is up he will have an updated dysbiosis index. If the results come back good the next step is to schedule him for a fecal transplant. We should know more in a couple of w...eek's time. Please keep sending love and prayers up for Gus that we can turn this around for him and push his colitis into dormancy. Gus also just celebrated his second birthday with his amazing foster family as can be seen in one of the photos. We cannot thank them enough for all the love and care they are giving Gus. We truly couldn't do it without them or without all the amazing supporters out there who donated to help Gus, thank you! See more

Introducing Spooky & Lotus. Lotus & Spooky’s world just got rocked off its axis when they suffered the loss of their dad. Their aunt stated that they were alone with their dad as he passed away and would not leave his side upon discovery. We were also told that they are very bonded with each other and while we can usually take that at face value, our volunteers also witnessed how one anxiously looked for the other when they are out of sight. Aunt said they have never been... apart. Spooky is a 6 year old white male with the cutest pink, blotchy nose. Lotus is a beautiful fawn with a black mask and is 3 years old. Both are fixed but will need their vaccinations updated. Welcome Spooky and Lotus. We will make sure you both continue to receive the love and care your daddy has always given you. If you have room in your heart and home for this beautiful bonded pair, please fill out an adoption application at: www.westcoastboxerrescue.org

WANTED: A special foster home for a boxer girl in need. Could it be you or someone you know? Delilah is a 2 year old boxer female that has been diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis. She needs a home where she can recover and we can get her condition under control so that she can eventually be adopted. She has already made improvements under vet care. She still poops 8 or more times a day but in almost all cases will tell her human she needs to go outside. She has only had ...a few accidents in the home and no longer needs diapers. Due to her condition, she is a bit underweight at 36 pounds. Other than the ulcerative colitis, Delilah is an amazing dog. She is exceptionally good with both adults and kids and gets along well with other dogs (we aren’t sure about cats). She walks nicely on a leash and is otherwise housebroken, but she is not yet crate trained. Delilah bonds with her human and wants to be with them as much as possible, she even refuses to dine alone and will need company while she eats. WCBR is looking for a foster that can commit to Delilah’s care. This includes taking her to all needed vet appointments, administering medications, following a strict diet 3x per day, and willing to log changes and improvement in her care. Fortunately, we have an amazing volunteer with experience with this condition in dogs that will be available for questions and advice as needed. Someone that is home often and will not leave Delilah alone for more than a few hours is key. WCBR will cover the costs of her food, veterinary expenses, and any special supplies needed for her care. If you may be able to provide the foster home Delilah needs, please submit a WCBR Foster Application via our website, https://www.westcoastboxerrescue.org/adopt/app/ and also email [email protected] to let us know about your interest. Feel free to share this post with dog-loving friends who might be able to foster Delilah. Helps us get Delilah home! WCBR and Delilah appreciate your assistance.

**Gus Medical Update** We are totally overwhelmed by the amazing and generous donations from our boxer loving family to help Gus. It is only because of YOU that Gus even has a chance to live. Thank you, thank you, thank you from all of us, especially Gus and Gus' foster mom and dad, Lisa and Mike. Gus had an endoscopy and colonoscopy yesterday. We learned from the specialist just how much pain this brave boy is actually experiencing. The diagnostics showed severe changes... to his intestines and colon. The mucous membrane layer of his stomach is abnormally pale (indicating severe inflammation), the small intestine has clubbed villi and is swollen with an excessive accumulation of fluid. The upper intestine was extremely sensitive to the scope, as it bled when and wherever the endoscope touched it. This level of inflammation and bleeding correlates with the severity of his condition. As if that wasn’t enough, it had nothing on his poor colon, which is grossly inflamed with thick proliferative inflammatory tissue that, as the vet explained, looked as if a rake had been taken to his colonic mucosa. Biopsy samples of the stomach, small intestine and colon were collected and have been submitted for analysis. We will continue to update you as his results, diagnosis and long term treatment plan becomes available. Meanwhile, please keep good thoughts and send prayers for this young boy! We are extremely hopeful that with a targeted treatment plan in place we will see Gus running, playing and full of boxer antics. **DONATION MATCH OFFER** One of Gus' amazing donors, who wishes to remain anonymous, has offered to match up to $500 of donations received today, thank you SO much. Once again we are absolutely astounded by all your generosity, words do not suffice <3.

**Please Help - Gus Medical Update** Followers and friends Gus desperately needs your help. Some of you may remember a foster home request we posted for help with a very ill boy, Gus. His owners were no longer able to care for him after trying everything they could and arrangements were being made to put him to sleep. Thankfully his owners were willing to work with WCBR and we were able to secure a very special foster home willing to deal with his major medical issues. Gus... came to us with chronic bloody diarrhea and with very low body weight. We took Gus straight to the vet and he had a PCR test (Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), a tool frequently used to diagnose diseases by identifying its DNA). It tests for a number of parasites and bacteria (including Covid) via fecal panel. Our boy tested positive for Cryptosporidium and Campylobacter. Crypto is often seen in pups under 6 months and is a particularly nasty type of Coccidia, resistant to its typical treatments. We initially treated him with Tylan powder and Marbofloxacin but even with treatment he has continued to lose weight. Gus also continues to have bloody diarrhea round the clock, every 30 minutes-2 hours. He is very lethargic but in spite of everything handed to him still a super sweet boy. Due to no improvement seen Gus had an appointment with a specialist today. An ultrasound was performed as well as updated labs and a fecal PCR and he is scheduled for a scope and biopsy on Wednesday. His medical costs to date are in excess of $6500. We knew that taking on a major medical case like this would be challenging especially during these trying times but we had to try to help Gus. Please will you help us by donating what you can and sharing our fundraiser so we can cover his medical expenses and continue working on a plan to get him well? Donations can be made directly on this post, thank you so much in advance. Gus definitely deserves a chance to get well and be a bouncy, happy, healthy boxer boy. We will update you as soon as we receive the results from the specialist.

2020 has brought changes for all of us, new working situations, new shopping requirements, new ways of socializing, in all, new ways of living. At West Coast Boxer Rescue we have seen a lot of changes too, most noteworthy is the increase for rescue requests for senior boxers. WCBR adoption and foster applications received for seniors (6 years and older) is a mere 1%! Regardless, we have embraced seniors in need by creating the WCBR Silver Wiggle Club lead by a few of our m...ost dedicated volunteers. WCBR recently welcomed 4 wonderful Boxers, Tyson, Arie, Dotty & Fiona. Each has their own sad story to tell from being dumped in a canyon, ignored in a backyard for years after the children came, one was on the way for euthanasia, saved by our timely phone call, to one that the original owner passed away and a family member that took the boxer was waiting for the dog to do the same, alone in the backyard while their dogs romped inside. These four lucky boxers hit the jackpot because WCBR had amazing foster or adoption families that had indicated they wanted a senior boxer in their loving home. Senior dogs have longer adoption cycles, 36%, that are not euthanized shortly after intake, stay in public shelters for 6 months or more. WCBR wants to save more senior boxers, can you help us? WCBR requires prequalified foster and adoption homes to continue saving these senior boxers due to the higher risk of kennel cough in a kennel situation. Become part of our adopters or foster pack and the WCBR Silver Wiggle Club! Fill out an application today! https://www.westcoastboxerrescue.org/adopt/app/ Senior dogs come with many benefits: They become instant companions; boxers love their people! Manners, someone else has trained them; good for less experienced pet owners Set personalities with lower chewing/less destructive tendencies Good with children and seniors Enjoy shorter walks and exercise routines You can teach an old dog new tricks, dogs learn at any age Loving and loyal! Can you open your heart and home to an older WCBR boxer so they may be given the chance to live out their lives being loved? **EMERGENCY MEDICAL FOSTER HOME NEEDED** Once in a while we are faced with a very challenging rescue situation. Our goal is to try to save as many boxers as possible and to do whatever we can to help owners in a position where they are desperate for help and no longer able to take care of their dog. Sometimes, due to medical needs, the only way we can save a life is by having a committed foster home ready and able to step in and help. Enter Gus, a sweet, young boxer boy strug...gling with IBD or boxer colitis, diagnosis is still unclear. His owner loves him but is completely overwhelmed and needs help, no judgement please. We are his last resort, if we cannot find a foster home before the end of the weekend Gus will be euthanized. Gus needs someone willing and able to foster him preferably in No.CA so we can get him to a vet with experience in IBD/colitis and try to help him get stabilized. Anyone who has dealt with IBD/Colitis knows it can be challenging. Any potential foster home should be aware that due to the uncontrolled IBD/Colitis he is prone to having accidents. He needs to be let out as soon as he has eaten and several times during the day to minimize the chances of him not being able to hold it. WCBR will be responsible for all of Gus' medical bills so a foster will not have to be concerned about financial obligations. Please if you can help comment on this post and we will contact you as soon as possible. Time is really of the essence. Thank you so much for your continued support. We believe that Gus can be helped but can only do so if an angel steps forward to help us and Gus, he is only a year old and deserves a second chance. See more

UPDATE: WCBR is thrilled to share that Tyson has been placed in a foster home. He is settling in nicely and as most boxers is a shadow to his human! <3 WCBR has a very special senior boy seeking a foster home. Skip the antics of a puppy and welcome this loving boy into your home! Meet Tyson. Tyson is an 8 year old, well behaved male boxer. He is about ~65 lbs with natural floppy ears and docked tail. He began life adopted by a couple as a young puppy. Then the baby w...as born and Tyson lived most of his days outside in a back yard without his family, no way for a people-loving boxer to live. WCBR wishes he had been rehomed at a younger age, but we took him in as a senior promising him a better life, can you help? Tyson is being treated for persistent issues with floating kneecaps and some degeneration which will slow his mobility as time goes on. Because of this, WCBR will support the ongoing cost of his medication and treatments and would ideally like his foster home to be in Southern California to be closer to our authorized vets. For now, WCBR is seeking a soft place for Tyson to call home with a kind hand to give him the love he has always yearned for. Can you help dear Tyson? If you are interested in fostering Tyson, please read about our process and fill out the application at: www.westcoastboxerrescue.org/adopt

On this Memorial Day, let us honor those who paid the ultimate price for our freedom.

West Coast Boxer Rescue 16.07.2020

Meet Tyson! Tyson is a tall & flashy fawn with natural ears and a docked tail. Tyson came to us by way of owner surrender (no comments, please) and is 8 years young. Tyson weighs approximately 65-70 lbs and is a smiley guy once he’s relaxed, but is nervous upon initial introduction with other dogs and some people. We were informed Tyson had little interaction with the family lived with, which we believe attributes to his shyness. We’ve also discovered Tyson sustained an injur...y to his right hind leg that has been untreated, until now. We are excited to better get to know Tyson’s personality and further treat his emotional and physical injuries. Welcome to the WCBR pack, Tyson. If you are interested in adopting or finding out more about Tyson or any of our other dogs, please read about our adoption process and fill out an application at: www.westcoastboxerrescue.org/adopt Please keep in mind that we are experiencing an influx of applications at this time and it may take longer than normal for an adoption coordinator to contact you. Please bear with us, as we are doing our absolute best to ensure our boxers are welcomed into loving homes, as soon as possible. #westcoastboxerrescue #boxerrescue #boxer #rescue #rescuedog #adoptdontshop #adopt #foster
