Westchester Kumon has completed the L.A. County COVID Safety Compliance Program and is currently open for in-person (as well as virtual) class sessions. Our class sessions strictly follow the mandated social distancing and disinfecting protocols, which can be found here: https://www.kumon.com/westchester/resources For students not attending class, we strongly encourage parents to swing by at your regularly scheduled time, to drop off completed assignments and pick up new a...ssignments, every two weeks. If you would like to pick up assignments outside of class hours, from the pick-up bin outside, please call Instructor David to arrange a time. Please have your students complete their assignments at home, as dated, in order to maintain the daily Kumon routine. If students have Kumon homework questions, Instructor David will be available by phone/text during regular class hours, and during additional non-class hours, by appointment. Following these steps can keep your student’s learning momentum going, even through these challenging times.

Meet Mason, N., the Senior Division 1st Place Bookmark Contest Winner in Round 1. While completing his Kumon Reading studies virtually, Mason remains a voracious reader. He was excited for the opportunity to participate in the Western Region’s Book Club’s Contest last fall. In photos displayed, Mason is featured celebrating his win with his family and his Kumon Instructor Lois Lau of the Kumon Math and Reading Center of Broomfield (Colorado). In addition to having his book review and visual drawing of Rafe Martin’s The Rough Face Girl published, he won other special prizes including a gift on his behalf from Kumon to his regular school. Mason and his family are seen presenting this gift and other promotional items to his Principal at Stargate Charter School, Mr. Wildenstein, and teacher, Mrs. Ross. Way to go Mason!

Question: How confident are you at identifying a need for an autism assessment referral in girls? The invisible girls, Hiding in plain sight - you’ve hea...rd the terms, we KNOW we are missing girls, but what does this mean?! #5 on this list is HUGE because these girls are often craving social interactions while missing social cues in a way that can be dangerous and harmful- it sets them up for being bullied, taken advantage of, and/or sexually abused. And less dangerous but equally harmful to self esteem and mental health - it can impact their ability to make and maintain friendships as they get older and as social relationships become more complex. And THIS is why we need to intervene early and give them the correct intervention to (hopefully) reduce negative results of misdiagnosis such as abuse or depression. Want to learn more? I currently have a one hour course on how to identify autism in girls, including real life videos and what to look for - and it’s only available until November 14th! Sign up at Bit.ly/AuGirlsCourse
