"Did they forget to put the keys on that one?" Nope! This instrument was made as a practice tool for players to get more comfortable with the saxophones overtone series. Fun fact: the Unison Keyless Alto Sax in our store has a serial number close to 500, this means there's at least 500 identical horns out in the world! #shoplocal #band #weirdinstruments #saxophone

The composer of the month for December is the one and only Beethoven! Ludwig van Beethoven Dec.1770- March 1827 was born in Bonn Germany. He is considered one of the greatest composers of all time and was a crucial figure bridging the classical and romantic periods in classical music.During his life he composed 9 Symphonies, 5 Piano Concertos, one Violin Concerto, 32 Piano Sonatas, 16 String Quartets, 2 Masses, and the opera Fidelio. He began his career as a brilliant pianis...t (and composer) but by age 30 began to go deaf. Despite this handicap he composed some of his best music after becoming profoundly deaf. One of his hobbies was cooking! Hence his famous quote: "Only the pure in heart can make a good soup" #classicalmusic #shoplocal #orchestra #band

Fanny Mendelssohn, Fanny Hensel after marriage, is our first featured composer of the month! This new series will highlight a different composure for each month with Fanny Mendelssohn(1805-1847) being our first! Fanny Mendelssohn was the oldest of 4 including one Felix Mendelssohn. She was first given piano lessons by her mother who herself was taught by a student of Bach. Zelter, a german composure and teacher of Ms. Mendelssohn gave her the highest praise for a women studyi...ng music at the time, She plays like a man. Ms. Mendelssohn composed many pieces(around 460 pieces of music) however, due to her father's insistence that she fulfills her housley duties she had to have her work published under her brother Felix’s name. Some of her work published under her brothers name received high praise from Queen Victoria herself(1842). Ms. Mendelssohn has only 1 known public performance(1838) and published only one collection of her work a year before her death. Fanny Mendelssohn passed from a stroke she suffered while rehearsing one of her brothers canatas. Felix passed 6 months later of the same cause shortly after finishing String Quartet No. 6 in F minor written in memory of his sister. #classicalmusic #musichistory #mendelssohn #femalecomposer #WomenOfHistoricNote #shoplocal @ West Valley Music See more
