Hi Neighbors...We are asking folks to help OUR COMMUNITY GET COUNTED! We are asking folks to ask their neighbors if they have taken the Census and to encourage them to go online and take the census. Fair Count - https://www.faircount.org/ You can also take the Census using your mobile device in addition to being online:... https://www.2020census.gov//ways-/responding-by-phone.html We have historically had a poor response for the US Census, which only happens every 10 years and everyone who understands what this means is fewer resources appropriated from the Federal government for our communities where federal funds provide things like resources for transportation, schools, infrastructure, health services, homelessness, housing, healthcare and Congressional representation.

Thank you Candice Elder and HAWG. Neighbors, YOU CAN HELP. We want our unhoused residents off the street and we can use your help to spread the word and/or serve. City is accepting applications starting 9/17 to serve on the new Homeless Advisory Commission. Impacted folks are strongly encouraged to APPLY! ... Oakland Ordinance No. 13584 C.M.S. establishes the City’s Homeless Advisory Commission and provides that Councilmembers shall make recommendations on Commissioners to the Mayor, who appoints them for the Council’s confirmation. The impacts of COVID-19 on our economy in general, and on housing insecurity and homelessness in particular, make this Commission more important than ever. Mayor Schaaf looks forward to collaborating with the Council in seating and launching the Homeless Advisory Commission in November 2020. The Commission’s enabling legislation is attached and stipulates that the Commission shall: - Consist of nine (9) members who are all residents of the City. - No less than half of the members must be residents of heavily impacted neighborhoods. - No less than two (2) members must be currently homeless, formerly homeless or low- income, as the term "low income" is defined by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development. - No less than three (3) members must have professional expertise in, or be providers of, homeless services or housing with priority given to individuals with a background in affordable housing, shelter management, or public health. - No less than one (1) representative must have financial expertise. - Members may fulfill more than one (1) of these criteria for the purposes of meeting these requirements. Additionally, appointments must be made after the Special Vacancy posting deadline of September 17th in accordance with the Maddy Act that requires seats be advertised for 10 working days prior to council approval of any board or commission. Applications will be managed through Granicus, and we encourage you to direct your nominees to submit their application no sooner than September 17th at https://oakland.granicus.com//8552f8c4c0e15460/boards/17813.
