Dr. Baker will be lecturing at the Rotary Club of Pleasant Hill meeting. "Understanding the Crisis on the Korean Peninsula and a Rational Way Forward" Dr. Michael Baker, a retired Rear Admiral United States Navy, will discuss the importance of the Koreas to their neighbors and world commerce. He will examine why North Korea acts in a belligerent fashion, and whether there is a credible threat to the security of the USA and its allies. US and allied options such as diplomacy a...nd war will be explained, along with a way forward with constructive engagement. Dr. Michael Baker has practiced surgery for more than 35 years in Contra Costa County. Dr. Baker teaches combat casualty care, triage, trauma, and response to complex disasters and humanitarian emergencies. Rear Admiral Baker was the Commander, US Naval Medical Forces Korea, from 2001 -2005. He also worked on contingency planning and joint exercises involving potential crises on the Korean Peninsula. He served 30 years for his country and received numerous awards including 3 Legion of Merit Awards.

A message from Dr. Tiffany Svahn of Diablo Valley Oncology & Hematology "The long-awaited results from the TailoRx trial were released yesterday, June 3rd, at the American Society of Clinical Oncology in Chicago. The results confirm that using the Oncotype Dx gene expression test to assess the risk of breast cancer recurrence can spare many women unnecessary treatment with chemotherapy that will not benefit them. Diablo Valley Oncology has several patients who participated in this trial. Now we have results that can affect the lives of many more women diagnosed with breast cancer."
