Wat Buddhanusorn 10.10.2020

As was previously announced, due to the COVID-19 virus, Wat Buddhanusorn has cancelled the Songkran Festival that was scheduled for April 11th and 12th. Chanting by the monks for the departed are always a part of this ceremony. This year the monks will still be chanting for the departed, but without people in attendance at the temple. If you have a picture of a departed loved one that you would like included in the ceremony, please bring it by the temple prior to April 12th a...nd leave it for the monks to place in the temple. The pictures will be available for pick up after the last chanting on April 19th. Please stay healthy by maintaining a six foot social distance, washing your hands frequently, and using a mask and gloves when you do have to go out shopping, etc. If we all reduce the risk of exposure we will also reduce the time until we can return to normal life.

As you may have heard, our Governor had announced that all people over 65 years old should immediately self-quarantine themselves. It has also been announced that there should be no meetings of any groups. Most lately the 6 Bay Area Counties have requested that all people shelter-in-place to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Based on this news, and the assumption that this COVID-19 virus will get worse before it gets better, we would like to make the following announce...ments: 1.) You should call the temple before you come. Confirm a time to meet with a monk because the monks may not be available. If you come, please only meet with the monk one family (living together) at a time. If you arrive at the temple and see that the Monk is meeting with others, please wait somewhere away from the Monk until he is available. Also, keep in mind that you can consult with the monks over the phone between 9:00 am to 11:00 am, and from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm. 2.) The 2020 Songkran Celebration previously scheduled for April 11th and 12th is canceled and there will be no services being held.

It's that time of year, when boys trade their summertime freedom for a first hand experience of the monastic life. Samanera Aarin is the latest Wat Buddhanusorn student to participate in the Thai-American tradition of temporarily ordaining during the summer school break.

Due to air quality, it has been decided not to have any activities taking place outdoors such as children activities, dance and music performances during this weekends Loy Kratong Festival/Royal Kathina ceremony. However, all are welcome to the temple to participate in presenting the Royal Kathina Robes with ceremonies inside the Ubosot on Sunday starting at 10am.
