The varicose veins in Nancy Estabillo’s legs were so painful she could barely walk, making it difficult for her to work and do the things she likes to do. But two months after her vein ablation treatment at the Washington Vein Rejuvenation Center, she’s feeling great and back to taking long walks. Due to fear about coming into contact with COVID-19 last March, an area woman named Sandhya canceled her mammogram appointment at the Washington Women’s Center. This was despite the fact that she knew the importance of this screening, as she had been diagnosed with cancer in her right breast in 2019. After successful surgery and radiation, the cancer was gone, but Sandhya needed a mammogram to determine if it had come back. I was afraid to go because of COVID-19, she admitt...ed. Finally, Sandhya’s husband convinced her. He pointed out that the pandemic might last for months and she shouldn’t wait. That was great advice. When Sandhya had her mammogram at Washington Women’s Center in May, she found the aggressive cancer was back. I don’t know what would have happened if I had waited, she told us. I really want people to know if they need a routine test, they should get it. The Hospital is doing everything possible to protect us. The Washington Women’s Center has been accredited by The National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers for its excellence in providing a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach to coordinate the best care and treatment options available. Our October 2020 Employee of the Month is Natally Servino. She’s a buyer in Materials Management, a department that’s dedicated to providing the supplies and equipment used to serve our patients. Natally, who lives in Union City, is proud of the work she and her co-workers do at Washington Hospital. Besides being at the forefront of COVID-19, the physician-researcher has extensive experience in skin/soft tissue infections, malaria/travel medicine, tuberculosis/nontuberculosis mycobacterial infections, endovascular infections, central nervous system infections, and HIV/AIDS. I like to focus not just on diagnosis and treatment for my patients, said Dr. Catalya, but also on their continuity of care and health care management. A Bay Area native who grew up in Walnut Creek, Dr. Catalya is happy to be part of the Fremont communitya diverse, multicultural environment that’s a perfect fit.
