It’s a new year and David and I are just now getting our heads back in the game. We tend to play as hard as we work and along with the kids, we did all the fun things winter has to offer. Ice Skating, sledding, tubing, skiing, snow boarding and indulging in all the seasonal foods and drinks. Besides shear exhaustion we both got hurt. I fell on my hip trying to balance both girls ice skating and David wiped out hard on his snowboard. The kids are finally back in school and we ...are both trying to get our own bodies in for massage and acupuncture and it’s not easy. Even when you know what you need and you own your own studio, finding time to schedule self care can be difficult. But it is so important and will get you back to high performance much faster so you just have to make it happen. I scheduled myself a massage this Friday with miss Aubrey who does excellent hip and low back care. David’s crash knocked the wind out of him hard and he feels internally bruised. Acupuncture is the perfect gentle yet effective modality for his injury. What did all of you lovely people get up to this holiday? Anyone else get injured ? We’re are hear to help, even if it’s just to empathize. See more

One of the things that makes Zen Sanctuary so special is most of us have been friends for over a decade. Having a team of people who not only care about each other but actually like each other just shows in the quality of experience and care you receive. We nurture each other so we have more to give to you. Kyle is one of our newer therapists at Zen but I have known Kyle for over 20 years. We met in Arizona working at Trader Joe's. Later I introduced him to his wife Jenny and officiated their wedding. Kyle's motto of "I'm always here to help" is more than evident in his bodywork. If you have not had the opportunity to try out his work, stop by our open house next Saturday where he will be helping our with hip and low back pain. Hope to see you then.

2019 has fully ripened, and now it's time to take a bite of that fruit, the result of all your hard work this year. Imagine biting into a ripe peach that sends juices dripping off your chin. That's what this time of year feels like to me: ripe with possibilities and time to reap the fruits of our labor. What I love about the fall and winter is that the celebrations and traditions of the closing of the year all are built to illustrate and appreciate the sweetness of life. Hal...loween and Día de los Muertos have roots in the honoring of our deceased loved ones, and therefore the richness of our heritage, which we, in the land of the living, carry with us. St. Martin's Day, Hanukkah, and Christmas are reminders that when we all share and give what we can, when we can, the whole community is stronger for it. Every holiday this time of year is about abundance, and nestled in between all the others is the deep ruby-red gem of the season: Thanksgiving. The day that, not only must we experience first-hand the cornucopia of plenty, but we must also revel in the gratitude of it all. It is in this act of being thankful that we acknowledge life's splendor, and, more importantly, that we possess it. Because you can't be grateful for something you don't actually have. When you take the time to say, "thank you," the beauty and bounty you see around you is welcomed inside, where it leaches into your bones and seeps into your soul. Happy Thanksgiving with love David and the Zen Family See more

Stress-Free Summer Teen Massage Special For a limited time, ages 10-18 receive $15 off a 1/2 hour massage or $30 off an hour massage.... Between sports, carrying huge loads in their backpacks, growing pains, and sitting for hours on end in tiny desks and at computers, kids these days need massage. Massages on minors (and all people) can be done completely clothed and be just as effective. Parents are welcome to sit in the room during treatment. Therapists can even discuss what they are doing and how you can help massage and stretch your child at home. DM for link to book.

We Want Our Kids to Do Better Than Us There is no question that our kids have more pressure than we did growing up. The constant inundation of information, both good and bad, just adds to the stress their young bodies endure. Luckily, there does seem to be a slow movement back towards mindfulness, appreciation for nature, and natural remedies. Researchers and doctors are looking for alternatives to curb the opioid epidemic, and findings are showing that massage, acupuncture,... and even meditation are some of the most effective methods to relieve pain. It’s my true belief that we should be taught self massage in school. We are all built with these healing tools at the ends of our arms, and it’s just a shame that we don’t know how to help ourselves. But you can do better. Teach your kids now the value of self care. Better yet, lead by example. This year, send your teens back to school more confident, calm, and comfortable in their bodies by scheduling an appointment for them at Zen before school starts. From now through Sept 15, we are offering specials on skin care, massage, and acupuncture for ages 10-18. DM for link to book.

Tendon injuries are usually related to over-use. Research has shown, when these injuries persist, traditional anti/inflammatories are not effective. Physicians are encouraged to explore noninvasive options before recommending surgical care. Fortunately, these injuries often respond well to skilled manual therapy. Studies of tendon injuries in violinist at the elbow, Achilles’ tendon and knee found massage was a helpful contributor to the muscle and tendon recovery.
