The top two spellers from each school participated in the annual Magnolia School District Spelling Bee. It was a very intense competition with words like tapes...try, surmised, and trifecta. Congratulations to Bryan Pham from Walt Disney Elementary who earned top honors as this year’s champion. Bryan stated that he could not wait to tell his parents about winning the competition. When asked about any advice to future competitors, he recommends to study as much as you can and breathe. The three top spellers will be recognized at an upcoming Magnolia School Board meeting on March 5th. The Magnolia School District is very proud of every student who represented his/her school at this exciting event!

We are proud to announce that three Magnolia School District schools have been named as California Distinguished Schools by the California Department of Educati...on. Dr. Peter Marshall School, Juliette Low School of the Arts, and Walt Disney School have received this honor based on outstanding student academic achievement, as well as strong student attendance and and low suspension rates. In addition to their excellent performance on state indicators, qualifying schools also had to submit a narrative highlighting a model program and practice that contributes to their success. Dr. Peter Marshall Elementary was recognized for their Student Agency "Pawsitively" Exemplified Program. The program is supported by four key strategies: data-driven decision-making, parent engagement, professional development, and continuous cultivation of a strong school climate. Over the last few years, it has led to an increase in student achievement and engagement. Juliette Low School of the Arts was recognized for their Connecting Through the Arts Program. The program that has been in place for 3 years, focuses on a teaching approach that integrates visual arts into other core subjects in order to deepen student understanding, facilitate cross-curricular connections, and empower students to construct and demonstrate understanding of grade level concepts and skills through an art form. Walt Disney Elementary was recognized for their Comprehensive Student Support Program (CSSP) The program is founded on Great Initial First Teaching (GIFT) and structured support systems designed to meet the social-emotional, behavioral, and academic achievement needs of all Disney students. The schools will be honored on February 10, 2020, during an awards ceremony at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim

On Saturday September 28th, approximately 140 students from the Magnolia School District attended a free STEM event held at the Muzeo in Anaheim. The event was... put on by Andrew Needles, the CEO of Clarkson Technologies. Younger students had fun learning about polarity in batteries as they raced toy cars using magnets to propel them. Older students worked to use batteries, magnets and copper wire for a motor experiment. Prizes were donated by the Great Wolf Lodge, and several students won passes for their families. Thank you to the Parent Liaisons from the Magnolia School District who publicized the event, and to Mr. Needles for a fun opportunity for our students.
