Everyone is so concerned about the virus that we completely forgot about this terrible disease: Pickleball addiction disorder (PAD) typically starts off as recr...eational, whereby the individual plays and/or exercises in a social setting. The disease is progressive, which means that as time passes, he or she will exhibit a higher tolerance, frequently engage in the behavior and experience intense cravings and withdrawal symptoms. Below is a list of the common signs of addiction. If you or someone you love is struggling with PAD, get help now. Behavior signs: Missing work/housework Work/home problems Missing important engagements/functions Isolating/secretive about activities Conversations dominated by pickleball Constantly reading or surfing to learn new skills Financial problems (e.g. always needing money to purchase new equipment, gas and lodging for playing somewhere else, lessons) Physical signs of addiction: Fatigue Weight loss Overuse pain in joints, tendons and ligaments Laziness when it comes to common daily tasks and housework (due to the 1st sign of addiction) Exhaustion when performing tasks above the level of rec play Constant stretching throughout the day Emotional signs: Depression - inability to play because of other engagements Loss of interest in people/activities that used to be part of their lives Irritable/argumentative Denial Rationalizing Offering alibis, excuses, justifications, or other explanations for their using behavior Diversion Changing the subject to avoid discussing the topic Three Cs of addiction Loss of control over the amount and frequency of use Craving and compulsive using Continued use in the face of adverse consequences
