These dogs frolicking at the beach with a balloon are giving us #fridayvibes Our physical therapists use balloons in the clinic for balance therapy. They challenge patients by asking them to keep a balloon in the air. It helps them practice dynamic standing balance and makes therapy more enjoyable.
Have to started considering your holiday plans? The CDC is starting to issue guidance on how to stay safe over the holidays. The safest option is to celebrate virtually or just with members of your own household. However, if you plan to get together in person, the next safest option is to celebrate outdoors. Whatever you do, please be safe. If you do get together with family or friends outside of your household, please make sure to wear a mask and stay socially distanced. We can all make the sacrifice this year to ensure that we may be able to celebrate properly next year.
Happy Physical Therapy Month! Do you know what a physical therapist can do for you? Physical therapy has benefits for many medical conditions you may not have considered. Here are just some of the specialty areas in which physical therapy can help: balance, cancer, cardiopulmonary, geriatrics, lymphedema, neurological, osteoporosis, pediatrics, pelvic floor, and of course, vestibular. As movement experts, physical therapists can assess your issue and come up with a individu...alized exercise program to help get you back on your feet (so to speak). So, if a health issue is impacting your ability to move properly, ask your doctor to refer you to physical therapy for treatment. If your doctor doesn't know where to send you, get a referral and do your homework. For example, a Google search for "pelvic floor physical therapy near me", will provide you with a list of providers with that specialty. Physical therapy is medical treatment and is covered by most insurance plans.
October is National Physical Therapy Month and we are supporting the American Physical Therapy Association's efforts to encourage you to learn about the many benefits of physical activity. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services second edition of Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans, more than 80% of adults and adolescents do not get enough physical activity. Physical therapists play a critical role in helping Americans of all ages and abilities achieve their physical activity goals, and improve their quality of life.
After six months, many of us are mask wearing pros. However, as time goes on, it's easy to get careless and not wear the mask properly, increasing risk of infection. We need to remain vigilant, especially as we head into cold and flu season. This short informative video from the World Health Organization is a good reminder of proper face mask use. One last point: Don't forget to wash your fabric masks after wearing them!
Today is the first day of Fall, in which we observe Falls Awareness Day. Our team enjoys helping people improve their balance and increase their confidence, decreasing their risk of falls. It is recommended to have your balance checked annually. If you would like to schedule an evaluation or want more information, please give us a call. ... Keep Calm and Balance On! Team Vortex

Time flies. Four years ago today, we signed the lease on our current office space. We were excited to move into a bigger location with private treatment rooms for our patients. It was a great move and now we are getting ready to celebrate Vortex's 9th anniversary in October!
Today, the APTA is hosting a virtual rally to #FightTheCut. Medicare is planning to cut physical therapy payments by 9% in January 2021. While still dealing with the impact of Covid-19, this cut will be devastating to Medicare beneficiaries and physical therapy practices (like ours) that provide valuable medical care to them.... Please take 2 mins today to take action and send a letter to Congress! Click the link below for a pre-written form letter. Thank you, Team Vortex
After a week of great weather, today's heat was brutal and the next two days are supposed to be even worse! Please keep yourself and your loved ones safe. Wear light clothing, drink lots of water, and find ways to stay cool. If you do not have air conditioning, you can go to a cooling center at local community centers around San Jose.
Although most of us in the valley are safe from the horrible fires surrounding us, we should all have an emergency pack prepared in case an emergency (fire, earthquake) forces us out of our homes. Do you know what you'll need? Here is a helpful list being shared on social media of the types of things to take with you. We hope everyone stays safe! If you have the resources, we encourage you to donate $ or supplies to help our neighbors in need and the fire crews working so hard to save their homes.
