Beloveds, I hope you will join me on June 21 at 2:30pm Pacific time: The UUA Poor People's Campaign Leadership Council invites you to the National Poor People's & Low-Wage Workers Assembly on June 21st at 5:30pm ET. ... This event launches the one year campaign fighting forward every day towards a massive, generationally-transformative Moral March on Washington and Poor People’s & Low-Wage Workers’ Assembly on June 18, 2022. People from every corner of the U.S. will converge and convene in the nation’s capital in the summer of 2022 to create a national stage for the voices and leadership of people directly impacted by systemic racism, the denial of health care and ecological devastation, militarism and the distorted moral narrative of religious nationalism. We will demonstrate the power and resolve of poor people to make the Third Reconstruction a reality. https://www.3rdreconstruction.org/?referrer=UUA this video invitation is being shared out to Unitarian Universalists across the country. Feel free to share!

The fellowship word for the year is LIGHT. For those who may be new to our fellowship, let me explain. Each year at the Winter Solstice we have a ritual in the service of each person picking an inspiration word to guide them through the year. The president of the congregation picks a word for the fellowship. This past Winter Solstice Leona Wolf chose Light. Now, we couldn’t have known that in a few short months we would in a pandemic. We couldn’t have known the hardest of ... times that were coming. So we rejoiced to see light because we were so aware that we were living in the difficult time of heartless and cruel administration and its enablers, and we want to be a light in the world. We want to let our lights shine. And so we shall. The pandemic hit and so many have been struggling. It feels for some that the light has dimmed or even gone out. In the midst of pandemic and the fascistic threats to our democracy we see that the light has been shown on the deep disparities in our economic system, the pervasiveness of white supremacy and the threats to the most vulnerable. The light has shown what is and has been. But know this - in each of us there is a spark of light - in these times, hold fast to the truth of love and power of resistance. Hold fast to the light of truth, the fire of commitment, and the warmth of community that sustains us in the work of building the Beloved Community. We will let our lights shine, shine, shine!

Blessing of the Animals Join UU Animal Ministry at 1pm PDT/4 pm EDT on October 4 for a virtual Blessing of the Animals. It's shaping up to be a very special s...ervice, and you (plus your animals!) are encouraged to attend. You will find the Zoom link to join the service at the bottom of this article, on our website, and on our UUAM Facebook page. Contributors to the service will include: Rev. Dr. LoraKim Joyner is a UU minister, parrot veterinarian, co-director of One Earth Conservation, and former UUAM President. LoraKim conducts research, protects nests, and rescues wild parrots in Latin America. She also works to build knowledge, motivation, resilience, and capacity in people, organizations, and communities in the U.S. and internationally so that they can better cherish and nurture themselves, nature, and other beings. LoraKim was a 2020 nominee for the Indianapolis Prize, which celebrates conservation heroes. Rev. John Gibb Millspaugh is the current President of UU Animal Ministry. His award-winning justice work has focused on modern slavery, LGBTQ rights, and climate justice. He led the team that organized over 400 congregations to collectively write and adopt Unitarian Universalism’s intersectional Ethical Eating statement in 2011, the first known instance of a U.S. faith adopting a position statement of its kind. John’s thoughts on social ethics have been featured in the Boston Globe, the Orange County Register, C-SPAN, and the Los Angeles Times. Rev. Russell Elleven is the new UUAM Chaplain. He is Minister Emeritus at the Westside UU Church in Ft. Worth and is currently leading weekly Zoom sessions that offer support for exploring the human/animal bond and dealing with the grieving process for a departed companion animal. And there will be a special message -- recorded just for us -- from Dr. Jane Goodall, DBE, Founder of the Jane Goodall Institute & UN Messenger of Peace! Equipped with little more than a notebook, binoculars, and her fascination with wildlife, Jane Goodall braved a realm of unknowns to give the world a remarkable window into humankind’s closest living relatives. Through 60 years of groundbreaking work, Dr. Jane Goodall has not only shown us the urgent need to protect chimpanzees from extinction; she has also redefined species conservation to include the needs of local people and the environment. In recent years she has traveled widely around the world, speaking about the threats facing chimpanzees and environmental crises, urging each of us to take action on behalf of all living things and planet we share. During the COVID pandemic, Dr. Goodall is continuing her work, albeit remotely, as a global advocate for the health of the planet. Click here to learn more about her foundation.
