To our friends near and far, Sonoma County has adopted a Stay Home Order that will be in effect from December 12, 2020 through January 9, 2021. Sonoma County has joined six other Bay Area counties in preemptively adopting the California Department of Public Health’s Stay-Home Order. The local order adopts the restrictions contained within the state's recently announced Regional Stay-at-Home order. For travel details go to: https://www.visitsantarosa.com/covid19

You go through a renovation and reinvent yourself and become much more desirable, said Brad Calkins, executive director of Visit Santa Rosa, the city’s tourist marketing agency. Despite the immense challenges we've faced there are still good things happening. From the Press Democrat: https://www.pressdemocrat.com//sonoma-county-hotel-secto/

In Santa Rosa, the fall season stands out as being optimal in our eyes. Our region is lively with an atmosphere that's hard to beat. You may catch a glimpse of the colorful grapes still sitting on the vine and, if you’re lucky, you might see a fast-moving crew in the vineyard harvesting the fruit and bringing it into the winery. Santa Rosa and Sonoma County come alive during fall, and the celebrations continue through the end of October. With this special time of year come...s the tradition of harvest parties and experiences, where winemakers, wine drinkers, and locals and visitors gather to celebrate the season’s bounty. The fall season delivers what is arguably the most pleasant weather of the year in Sonoma County, with a majority of the days boasting sun in the forecast and average high temperatures hovering in the lower 80’s. Spend the days soaking in the sunshine on winery patios and lawns. Sonoma County has a Mediterranean climate, which often leads to crisp, cool evenings that can drop into the uppers 40s, even after sunshine-filled days. Perfect sweater weather. As the last of the grapes are harvested, the leaves across the region turn colors that display an impressive blanket of fall foliage. Color transformations aren’t limited to trees, as the grapes leaves that grace the vines turn from their various shades of green to magnificent reds, vivacious yellows, and picturesque coppersjust like our Santa Rosa sunsets Need any more inspiration? Halloween is a holiday celebrated each year on October 31, and Halloween 2020 will this coming Saturday evening. The tradition originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts. In the eighth century, Pope Gregory III designated November 1 as a time to honor all saints. Soon, All Saints Day incorporated some of the traditions of Samhain. The evening before was known as All Hallows Eve, and later Hallo...ween. Over time, Halloween evolved into a day of activities like trick-or-treating, carving jack-o-lanterns, festive gatherings, donning costumes and eating treats. And From the ‘Did You Know File: More people, especially millennials, are buying costumes for their pets. Twenty percent did so in 2018, up from 16 percent in 2017. And on that note, Santa Rosa just happens to be a Fido-friendly destination: https://www.visitsantarosa.com/dog-friendly

"Americans love Mexican food. We consume nachos, tacos, burritos, tortas, enchiladas, tamales, and anything resembling Mexican in enormous quantities. We love Mexican beverages, happily knocking back huge amounts of tequila, mezcal, and Mexican beer every year. We love Mexican peoplewe sure employ a lot of them. Despite our ridiculously hypocritical attitudes towards immigration, we demand that Mexicans cook a large percentage of the food we eat, grow the ingredients we need... to make that food, clean our houses, mow our lawns, wash our dishes, and look after our children. As any chef will tell you, our entire service economythe restaurant business as we know itin most American cities, would collapse overnight without Mexican workers. Some, of course, like to claim that Mexicans are stealing American jobs. But in two decades as a chef and employer, I never had ONE American kid walk in my door and apply for a dishwashing job, a porter’s positionor even a job as a prep cook. Mexicans do much of the work in this country that Americans, probably, simply won’t do. - Anthony Bourdain from Parts Unknown Here's to Mexican American service workers everywhere who make tourism and hospitality and food and beverage industry possible. Simply put, they are the horsepower that makes the engine roar.
