The Volunteers at Knight Foundry are working in conjunction with the California Blacksmith Association (CBA) to reestablish the Blacksmith Shop at the Foundry and to conduct demonstrations and training programs..... CBA Member John Williams is presenting a 5-day course in April 2021 at the Center for Metal Arts. Here is his announcement...... JOHN WILLIAMS.......... I’m excited to announce that I will be teaching a 5 day intermediate tool making class at the Center for Meta...l Arts this coming spring. Emphasis will be placed on tool design, and will cover hand tools required for making tongs followed by basic tong making. Basic tongs will have drawn reins. After basic tongs we will cover forge welding with drop tong welding for welding reins onto tong bits. The class will conclude with 2 days of forging and completing a German style cross pein hammer. Volunteers are the backbone of all historic restoration projects at Knight Foundry, across the US and around the world.... They show up and volunteer week after week, because they love the history, they love the old technology and they enjoy working with the other Volunteers to solve problems and share the history and skills with the Public. Alan Langmuir has been working on our big face lathe all year and you can see that Jack Harrington is pretty happy here putting a new flat belt on the cone pulleys for the lathe. Alan, Jack and others will have the big lathe up and running in 2021......
