This is, sadly, just another sign of a wave of local small business closures that will continue if government reopening policies aren't amended. Fortunately, as seen by the state announcing amendments to their reopening plans to allow tattoo and piecing and massage parlors to open immediately statewide, change is possible and is happening. We just need the Governor's office (where 100% of the authority of government in the state now resides, as we are told by all city and co...unty and state officials who tell us their hands are tied by the Governor) to listen to us and to start treating our businesses fairly. If it's safe to open big box stores, malls, casinos, airlines, tattoo parlors, and all of the rest to open, our family recreation businesses, armed with extraordinarily strict Covid mitigation guidelines, should be safe to open, especially once Sonoma County hits the red tier. https://www.northbaybusinessjournal.com//covid-casualty-/
It's hard to keep up with the state guidance, but here's a quick update: - Big Box stores were deemed to be safe by the state from the beginning of their reopening plan, and as we've all seen, they pack a lot of people into their buildings and apparently haven't been the source of any signficant number of infections among their customers. - After initially declaring the malls would need to remain closed until later phases of the reopening plan, the state reversed course and d...eclared than all malls in all tiers were safe to open immediately. This was a couple months ago. - After initially declaring that businesses such as tattoo parlors and body art studios and piercing shops and massage parlors would not be allowed to open until the red tier, the state reversed course earlier this week and declared that all of these businesses were safe to open in all tiers immediately. - Not only are family recreation businesses NOT allowed to open right now, we are also not allowed to open in the red tier. We have to wait until the orange and yellow tier, which are tiers our county likely won't hit until it's too late for most of these local small businesses. This makes no sense. Please share concerns of the inequities in the reopening plan with any elected officials who you can get to listen. We aren't asking to open right now. We are simply asking that we be allowed to open in the RED TIER, which would allow us to open in line with all of our peer business categories. We are not asking for special treatment -- we just want to be treated fairly.
