In honor of World Mental Health Day October 10th, here's a Challenge: Make this day meaningful. Here's how: 1. Take time to genuinely connect with peers, friends and family. Share with each acknowledge the stressCould be Covid, the impact of isolation, remote learning, etc. Could be anything. No assumptions, invite discussion! 2. Validate those feelings! You don’t have to be a clinician to validate and empathize. Don’t underestimate the power of telling someone you... care!! Follow this up by 3. Sharing ways to cope! Doesn’t have to be some complex coping strategy-just share what’s worked for you. Stress causes us to be less efficient with planning and ideas. You never knowan idea you take for granted, may have tremendous value for someone else. I recently helped someone discover Rosa Brothers Milk Company Coconut n’ Chocolate Ice Cream! Then explore ideas to 4. Problem-Solve situations that we may be struggling with. Think "controllable factors." Progress rarely happens without new ideas! Never know, brainstorming ideas to improve a process at work or even at home can help reduce stress! For example: Our clinicians brought up an example of time-consuming paperwork. Some thought this process could not change. Well, it can and it did change! Small changes can add up to big changes! Take the time to genuinely check in! The only way to spread awareness about mental health is to talk about mental health and reduce stigma! Feel free to share this post and our Page. October 10th is World Mental Health Day and Visalia Youth Services Program Director Ivan Rodriguez, LCSW, who also happens to serve as an Assistant Coach with the Mt. Whitney Pioneers Football Team has been engaged in providing mental health awareness efforts at Mt. Whitney High School through the Academy of Health Science (AoHS). Recently, due to the Covid pandemic and through collaboration with AoHS teachers Mr. Perrota and Mr. Naylor, Mr. Rodriguez met with students via n...ine Zoom classes and reaching nearly 200 students! Youth were encouraged to increase awareness of their own mental health needs, in particular, coming together and supporting each other, a vital ingredient to fostering resilience. The next project that Mr. Rodriguez is involved with, and true to the Pioneer name, is to increase mental health awareness with Mt. Whitney coaches. The Coaches Corner, is aimed at fostering a stronger community dedicated to improving the social and emotional well-being of students and students-athletes. Both Mt. Whitney High School and Visalia Youth Services are Pioneers when it comes to increasing mental health awareness with Action! We are so proud-as members of this community-to impact our own community through mental health awareness, accessibility and effective treatment. We're not perfect-not by any means, but that doesn't keep us from trying to be...all for the betterment of our community! Although we're helping to support Mt. Whitney High School, Visalia CA , here's an open invitation to further expand our collaboration efforts with all High Schools Visalia Unified Community & Parents of Visalia Unified Students, (or any school for that matter) in Visalia! Be Safe!! #mentalhealthisjusthealth Reconnecting Youth & CAST Programs, LLC

September is Suicide Prevention Month. Although we don’t consider ourselves Cowboy or Falcon fans (we respect all teams), we are most definitely #dakprescott and #haydenhurstfamilyfoundation fans! They are both advocates of mental health, leading the way in reducing stigma, saving lives and helping others achieve wellness. #mentalhealthisjusthealth https://apple.news/A1mGIQxuFRv6gSrwRYbX6AA

Ivan Rodriguez, VYS Program Director, had a blast talking about "resilience" with staff from the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sequoias yesterday. There's never been a more opportune time to discuss the factors that can help foster resilience in our Youth. We all have the potential to be resilient but it takes work! Amazing programs like Boys & Girls Club and their staff are changing lives every single day and VYS is excited to partner together to better serve our community. Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sequoias

Our Virtual Open House was a great success. The Virtual Open House was our effort to Demonstrate our Commitment to Excellence and although a little nerve-wracking, the effort went well. 48 community members, 8 break-out rooms and unparalleled enthusiasm can go along way! Our focus was on tending to our guests while using Zoom Platform and we didn't get as many pictures as we normally do! Next time... If anyone in the community would like to connect with VYS and bring our Virtual Open House experience to your organization, to learn about mental health and Visalia's Children's Mental Health Provider, feel free to contact us at [email protected]. Remember, we remain open, serving the community via telehealth, telephone and when needed, in-person (while taking precautionary protective measures).
