In 1955 fifteen year old Steve Hedstrom started working for his step dad Ray Nobel at Visalia Lumber Company. Steve learned the lumber business from Ray Nobel and upon Ray's death in 1973, Steve became sole owner of the company. In those days your word and a handshake was all that was needed to make any deal binding. Steve helped a lot of young contractors get their start in the building business and helped a lot of builders who ran into hard times. To Steve the contract...ors were in a sense his business partners and keeping them in business was his mission. He developed Visalia Lumber Company into a major supplier to the builders in Visalia, all of Tulare Country and the San Joaquin Valley. He expanded the lumber company to include a state of the art 10,000 square foot door shop and an Ace Hardware store. In 1979 Wayne Murray came to work for Visalia Lumber. For the next 41 years Wayne worked under Steve's leadership learning the ins and outs of the lumber business. For the past five years Wayne has been the CEO of operations at Visalia Lumber Company. On July 31st Steve suffered a sudden heart attack and passed away. Although he is gone, his knowledge and experience has been passed on to Wayne. The business is is continuing as usual under his leadership and staff. The company is still owned by the Hedstrom family and is the only independent lumber yard in Visalia. See more

We would like to wish John Rector a happy retirement. John retired from instructing students at C.O.S. in construction technology. The last two projects the students completed were the tiny house, and the hand made canoes. The tiny house built by the students won two trophies in Sacramento. One was the "People's Choice" award, and the other was the "Curb Appeal" award. The canoes were built from clear rough western red cedar planks. Good luck John, enjoy the rest of your life........
