This is an X-ray of a 2 week old puppy - look at how far the bones have to grow before they become a proper boney joint! This is why you should never let puppie...s jump, walk up/down stairs, over exercise or over train. Doing to much impact activity at a young age can cause serious issues later in life, or even at a young age as hip dysplasia and other orthopaedic conditions are rising in puppies! Remember the puppy rule for every month increase activity by 5 minutes. For example an 8 week old puppy only needs 10 minutes of physical activity a day - a 6 month old only needs 30 minutes a day of physical activity!! See more

Vineyard Kennels is having a rocking summer. We are selling out all weekends and steadily busy during the week, so get your reservations in ahead of time. New customers: always be on the lookout for vaccine updates, and double check the bordetella/canine cough, as that one must be specifically requested. All coolers are serviced and running well. Current protocol is to have a good morning recess while it’s cool, then we slow it down and go into potty break rotations. All the ...pups are cool and comfortable. We are looking for a good yard guy (or gal) which involves being trained to assist in let down/let up, monitoring recess, and checking the facility for weaknesses or obstructions. And poop. It involves a lot of poop! Please apply if you are interested, or know anyone who is. Also, we are looking for a supply of extra toddler beds and mattresses. We give up to $50 or more for a set. Ask your friends with kids who have outgrown them. We’ll even offer a spiff incentive!

As daily fires erupt in our area of Paso Robles, and the big ones scarily seem to creep closer, we are reaching out for available volunteers in the event of a regional catastrophe and evacuation. A feral had a small litter in one of our play yards. They are healthy, spry, and hissing at about 4-6 weeks. Eyes are wide and they are moving around. Three cute kittens up for adoption. We will try to capture the mother tonight and find a way to get her fixed. Let me know if you are interested, know someone who is, and if anyone works in the cat colonization/feral scene. Thanks.

Dear guests, and canine friends of the public: our consulting vet, Main Street Animal Hospital in Templeton, CA is now offering a canine flu vaccine. With cases being seen in southern and northern California, in his opinion, it is just a matter of time before they show up here. We are now recommending the canine flu vaccine and will have an update patched to our new web site. Dr. Ehlinger, of Main Street has a particular manufacturer he recommends, which is in two parts. And has great efficacy....much more so than bordetella vaccines (which are only able to filter out a few of the strains). Based on this information from Main Street Animal Hospital, we are officially recommending a canine flu vaccine, and over a period of time will be mandating the vaccine for lodging.
