The active retirement community’s virtual fitness classes are the perfect way for residents to maintain their fitness regimen from the comfort and convenience of their residences. Yoga, for example, is offered twice a week, enabling residents to stretch to better health. Research shows numerous benefits associated with leading a healthy lifestyle, including maintaining independence as we age. At The Village at NorthRidge, fitness matters!

The Village at NorthRidge will pause to honor veterans across the country, including resident-veterans calling the active retirement community home. A socially distanced, outdoor event is scheduled and will offer plenty of all-American fun. In addition to an unveiling of the Veterans Wall to showcase new veterans, there will be a lively performance by the Wartime Radio Revue Singers. The event will conclude with a mouthwatering barbecue dinner.

Although Halloween will look a little different this year due to social distancing, The Village at NorthRidge has planned a spooktacular celebration! Our courtyard will be transformed into a Halloween wonderland as performers A-Cappella Cryptix serenade residents with a frightful mix of spooky and silly tunes. From Disney villains to TV and movie monsters, the fantastic repertoire of songs is sure to have residents singing and dancing along. We wish everyone a safe and happy Halloween!

Intergenerational programs offer numerous benefits to young and old alike! At The Village at NorthRidge, residents will have an opportunity to interact with young adults via a fun virtual event. The El Camino Real High School Jazz Club will delight residents with a wonderful recital. Following the performance, residents and the teens will play online games and participate in icebreakers to get to know each other virtually and share a passion for music.

Autumn brings us many splendid things like apple picking, leaves changing colors, Halloween, and pumpkin spice everything, but the best thing it brings us is Oktoberfest! Servus! Oktoberfest is the largest celebration in Munich, Germany that was founded in 1969. At The Village at NorthRidge we celebrate it socially distant while enjoying the beautiful polka music by Hammerstein Music Bavaria Polka Band. PROST! And Happy Oktoberfest!

At The Village at NorthRidge, there’s always something to celebrate! The active retirement community will host a festive Oktoberfest, inviting residents to attend an outdoor concert by Hammerstein Music Bavaria Polk Band. The spacious courtyard will ensure plenty of social distancing with precautionary measures in place. As part of the festivities, residents will enjoy a special beer tasting to find their favorite fall ale. Everyone is guaranteed to have a good time celebrating all things German!

The Village at NorthRidge has adapted programs to adhere to social distancing guidelines. Religious services, for example, can be attended online. Cantor Teri Lieberstein will lead a lovely virtual Sukkot program via Zoom, inviting residents to learn about this holiday’s traditions with joyful music and prayers. As part of the observance, the Zest Department will deliver traditional selections, including hummus and pita and a fruit and cheese platter to each residence. Residents at the active retirement community relish opportunities to share their faith with neighbors.

The Village at NorthRidge has partnered with Silver Sneakers, a health and fitness program designed for older adults. One of the online classes residents will now have access to is Zumba Gold, led by a certified instructor. The total-body wellness program encourages residents to move and groove at their own pace to improve coordination and balance. The Zest Department provides one-on-one guidance for accessing the workouts which can be done from the comfort and safety of residents’ homes.

Yesterday was National Centenarian's Day, and we would like to spotlight resident Hermine (Mina) K., who is 103! Hermine's story is one of resilience as she grew up in Austria and escaped the Holocaust in 1938. She lived in Switzerland for four years, and then moved to a farm in the Dominican Republic for 10 years. An avid baker, her favorite way to treat herself is indulging in a delicious slice of apple strudel.

At TVN we commemorate Rosh Hashanah with a safe and social distant blowing of the Shofar by Rabbi-Chaim Brook. The shofar blast marks the beginning of amnesty which is known as the Ten Days of Repentance.

Residents at The Village at NorthRidge have diverse backgrounds and interests. They often volunteer to share their knowledge with their neighbors. For example, former history teacher Harold Schulman facilitates an engaging series, Jewish Americans. Now offered via video to adhere to social distancing, the class delves into the incredible influences Jewish cultures played in the formation of our great nation and how those imprints still echo though society in today’s modern era.

In honor of National Centenarian's Day, we are sharing advice and tidbits of wisdom from our resident centenarians. Meet Sylvia M., who recently turned 105 years young in July. Her most important advice? Do unto others as you would want done to you. Sylvia’s secret to longevity is positive thinking, Always remember, if today is not great, tomorrow will be better and when you think of the past, think of what makes you happy. Thank you Sylvia, for inspiring us all!

The Village at NorthRidge will celebrate the High Holy Days virtually. Residents can join Cantor Ter Lieberstein from the comfort and safety of their residences to usher in the Jewish New Year with songs, prayers and stories. The Rosh Hashanah service will include the blowing of the shofar to awaken the joy of being together while apart. On the 28th, an online Yom Kippur program will provide a reflective and sacred experience for residents.

Love is in the air at The Village at NorthRidge! Residents Sidney and Florence V. recently celebrated their 75th anniversary. The couple, who married at the end of World War II, was honored by family and friends during a socially distanced drive-by and parade outside the active retirement community. The local ABC affiliate featured the heart-warming event as loved ones drove by to share well-wishes and congratulate the couple on this huge milestone.
