Just Purchased A Home/Business? Do You Know Who Has Keys To Your Home Besides You?Like Previous Owners, Contractors, Real Estate Agents, Neighbors, Ex Husbands, Old Boyfriends. The List goes on...Your security is up to you, but an upgrade in deadbolts is a one time cost and will increase your security and give you/your family a secure peace of mind. *Most Ins. Companies give a 5 to 15% discount on your ins. policy.

The best thing you can do is prevent a LOCK OUT. You should make some precautions for the future. Consider making that duplicate key and giving it to a neighbor. You can also consider putting together a set of documents that prove who you are and keeping them in the car in case of another emergency. Try to understand what the emergency locksmith will require and prepare for an emergency in advance.

Fix Stuck Dead Bolt--the bolt may be having a hard time finding the strike plate. Be sure the strike plate is secure/in reasonable alignment with bolt. You can file the edges of the strike plate a little, even slightly round the edges of the deadbolt's end. If this doesn't work, you'll probably have to remove strike plate, fill screw holes with glue, wood matchsticks, reposition properly, and re-screw it.

Its a good idea to secure your windows. * Use secondary blocking devices * Block accessible windows open no more than 6 inches for ventilation * Make sure someone can't reach through an open window and unlock the door or inside the window and remove the blocking device... * Use anti-lift devices to prevent window from being lifted out * Use crime prevention/alarm decals on ground accessible windows See more

You may want to consider installing surveillance cameras around your property. Some homeowners place a monitor beside their TV so they can see around the perimeter of their home while watching it. Let people who pass your houses know you are aware of their presence. Burglars tend to be leery of houses with surveillance cameras. An additional tipinstall signs that indicate the house is under camera surveillance.

Use a layered approach to home protection. Think of it like an Onion. To get to the inner layers you have to get through the skin first. Any thing that slows down a robber may have the person looking for another house to rob. Consider having double pane glass and extra locks on all first floor windows and doors.

Window film helps hold your glass in place during destructive weather conditions, smash and grab burglaries. It helps maintain the integrity of a structure's outer shell to keep wind, rain and flying glass fragments from wreaking havoc inside the structure. Security films can also reject harmful UV rays, which can significantly lower energy costs by reducing interior space solar heating by as much as 98%.

We have had many people ask us...What does Fire Rating mean? So here is some information on the subject. When you are looking for a Fire Rated safe...find out what part(s) of the safe has the rating. *Somtimes it is just the locking mechanism.

Petroleum jelly is a great home remedy for unfreezing a car door lock (or any other lock, for that matter!) Put a bit of petroleum jelly on the car key, wiggle it around and try to open the lock. You may need to repeat this step a couple times. Or you can hold a match/lighter to the key and insert it a few times.... be careful the key will get hot.

Do you have a lock that is tough to turn the key in? Just a quick short spray of a SILICONE lubricant can do a world of good for any lock. Once you have lubricated one lock and seen the results, odds are good you will put silicone lubricant in every lock you own or have to use.

If your door will not lock, try a simple test before calling a locksmith. Open the door and turn the lock key while the door is open. If it works, then the hole in the door frame may be incorrectly aligned with the deadbolt. A simple fix is to file the hole opening wider. If the door still doesn't lock with the door open, the problem may be more ... serious, See more

Down to one auto key? Get a second key made asap. We can't stress this enough. If you lose all of your auto keys, your car's locks may have to be pulled to originate a new key. This is a valuable locksmith service, but it is labor intensive and significantly more expensive than getting a key copied. Even if your key is the more expensive transponder key (computer chips), ... you'll be very happy you have a backup. See more
