, . 2020 was tender, uncomfortable, and broke so many beliefs to the core.. it was revolutionary and painful for the world. For many, it changed everything. 2021 will be a year for us to implement all the lessons, focusing on what really matters and not looking back. ... For me, I did what I’ve done best the last few years whenever I am stressed and I buried myself in work, in my little cocoon of giving and creating. I worked and rested and worked again. I heard recently something that stuck with me, if 2020 didn’t bring out the hustle in you, it’s not in you and well, I hustled without loosing focus, but sacrificed almost all fun. I was busy on my own in my practice creating while I watched the world from what felt was afar. I created more beautiful smiles than ever, grew in my profession also more than ever, and my patients helped play a huge role this year in my life by keeping me social and feeling connected. I am so thankful for all of you. As we ring in the new year tonight I hope that we can all reflect back with gratitude yet look forward with deep faith in our hearts, knowing that the only constant is change. This New Year’s Eve I think we all welcome with open arms. We are all coming out of darkness in one way or another, and all I know is that I am alive, grateful and so ready to fly- do you agree? There was one quote that got me into and thru dental school... and really, to the point I am now... ’ .. I held on to that belief.. I embedded it within me. It helped me focus on the future, on the long term to do what I needed to do when I needed to do it.. to sacrifice living in the moment for what I wanted to come...... And although this mentality, this quote was one of my greatest reminders and helpers, I finally realized this weekend that I needed to stop, and actually start being more present, living in the moment... You see, getting to where you want to go and be most in life requires focus and the ability to choose in the present the best pathway, day to day.. but it also lies in the flow of your true alignment to work it’s magic on your behalf. So, to you I say, never give up what you want most for what you want now, but remember to feel and be present in your everyday.. what is going to get you to what you want most is not your plan, but simply your wish of that and your letting go to be carried there. In reminiscing today, one of my greatest joys this Christmas was coming online and seeing so many of my patients turned friends smiling wide and bright like never before for all their Holiday pictures... Truly warms my heart to look back at all these beautiful smiles I helped create in the middle of such a challenging year. What’s one of your greatest joys this year?

Good enough is not good enough when great is possible A revision of her previous veneers (done elsewhere a few years ago). My soon to be patient called me freaking out. She had chipped one of her veneers and needed it fixed ASAP, she was embarrassed to smile. We both had hectic schedules, but I was able to open my office for her on a Sunday to get her in. When I saw the broken veneer I told her that although I could try to redo one and make it match, that I really believed she should redo all of them, and then do two more. She entrusted in me. We were then able to correct her lip support, put her midline where it should be, add balance, translucency, femininity to her smile and make it truly great. So feminine. So sexy. We .

One of the keys to success is to prepare ourselves along the way for less failures as we journey though life. One of the main purposes of visiting a dentist is for the exact same reason, but in this field it’s call it prevention. It’s the reason why we visit most doctors and have our physicals, yet in dentistry I find that a lot of people go when there’s a problem, not realizing along the way that most of them didn’t have to happen. ... ? 1Floss, daily.. I would say at night before brushing your teeth. And by this I mean reach down between the space of your gumline and tooth on each side of each tooth, and scrape up to remove all the plaque stuck in this area (sulcus). Not just pass the floss between the teeth, this is not the purpose. 2Brush gently, morning and night.. with the bristles pointing at a 30 degree angle into the gumline. Don’t forget every surface, of every tooth, and the back and bottom. Electrics are better. I like @oralb 3Gargle, warm salt water, nanosilver mouth rinse @elementaoralcare , or non alcohol mouth rinse @therabreath. This reduces the microbial loads 4Scrape your tongue morning and night! With a tongue scraper, I like @scrapeyourtongue 5Check your gums, inside your checks, the roof of your mouth, sides and under your tongue. LOOK. You might catch something not right, not normal in time. Get to know yourself. 6Wear a professional night guard. I like to make my patients a lower one, for two reasons- 1) it’s more attractive, and 2) it serves like a retainer for those bottom teeth that like to misalign as we age. We don’t want to wear our teeth out, break restorations or teeth, cause damage and sensitivity and age ourselves when we loose vertical dimension from the wear of our #teeth. 7And finally visit your #dentist often 2x a year, and don’t pass on the xrays if they are recomended. One Step At A Time 100 years ago SOME women gained the right to vote in this country. Because I am woman, (and a Hispanic) doctor and entrepreneur, I can say it has not been easy to achieve the things I have and make the life I have and am building.... Still to this day, in 2020, I encounter invisible but very real blocks on a day to day where I feel unequal to male colleagues. I must admit, I don’t think of it often, and maybe that is where the power lies. I hardly remember what I am labeled on the outside. And that thought even in itself is sad and just plain wrong. Whereas I know that being a woman dentist and practice owner is an amazing thing, full of advantages, there is a long way to go to in essence to feel equal. I do believe that things are changing, and for the better. Slowly we are all making a difference, what and how we do things do change the perceptions in the world. Everything we do matters. There are consequences to every action and inaction and we must not forget. Who knows, maybe in the future people will automatically think of the word Cosmetic Dentist/ Doctor/ Entrepreneur and imagine in their heads a woman, and not necessarily a man. Until that day comes we must continue forward, and have faith know that everyone is equal. Everyone matters. We all have a voice and it all makes some sort of difference. As a collective, even a massive one. So, if you believe you have setbacks, think of how far you’ve come and how far you will go. #Havefaith and not hope, the difference being an inner knowing. Keep going. Keep moving. Keep dreaming. And get out there and #Vote

This beautiful patient found me online, while in search to do something to fix this dull bonded front tooth that instead of working for her was doing her beauty a disservice. This one is for the LADIES! : # #! (I don’t think I’ve seen anyone talk about this before...) Although I (we) want to see you, I just want you to know that your gums (and therefore teeth) are greatly impacted by #mensuration cycle. It happens so often that I see one of my regular patients, and I notice that while working on her, whether it be doing a simple cleaning or something more invasive, she squirms way more than usual.... I always say, I’m so sorry.. are you on your period? And EVERY, SINGLE, TIME they looked at me shocked and repeat, how did you know?! The last patient actually started crying at how in tune we were and how well I could sense her. And it’s true, while I’m with my patients I do feel them, (I’m super empathic), but I also know that high estrogen levels a few days before and during your period cause gum inflammation, and well, tenderness. I feel you! So if you want to have the least painful experience at the dentist, (and help us change our past negative stereotypes of being painful) visit us the week after your mensuration.
