Meet the Dancers: This is Anuhea Reed @anuhea.reed -one of our amazing Hip Hop Team Captains @vhshiphopteam2019.20 Here is what she had to say about what dance means to her ..The concept of dance is so unbelievably complex. Dance can make you feel all emotions and even ones you’ve never felt before. I’ve been dancing for as long as I can remember and over time I’ve discovered new emotions and feelings I didn’t think I could ever feel. My dance experience at VHS brought me... so many friendships and family connections I didn’t have growing up. The feeling of walking through those doors, whether they be the cafeteria doors, the tennis court gates, or our very own dance doors, the feeling of any shame or sadness leaves me. I’ve seen so many people come and go through these doors and I will never forget any of them. I’m so grateful to have been a part of such an unbelievably incredible program for 4 amazing years. Meet the dancers: Molly Sturgeon is one of our fabulous captains for the @_vhsdanceteam_ Here is what she had to say about her time dancing at VHS : I have been on the VHS Dance Team for 4 years, the last 2 as a captain. From my very first audition to my last performances throughout this year, I have learned so much and grown as both a dancer and a person. Our team is a family -- a safe space for expression and development in all aspects and I am so grateful I have been a part of it for all of high school. I am still dancing at home and interacting with team members, and try to keep it as a motivator. I look forward to continuing my love for dance throughout my whole life.. How could you not love her ?! We love you Molls !

Meet the Dancers: Jonny Sinklier is one of our amazing Hip Hop Team Captains and multi-faceted artists/performers at VHS. Here is what he had to say about dancing at VHS: Now you might think that all performers are stuck up snobs or attention attracters and except for a select few you might encounter, some of the most free spirited, humorous and caring people you will ever meet are dancers. These people you meet along the way, are and will always be the reason I love dance. ...Almost everyone I’ve met in only 3 years of dancing have been so supportive and confidence boosting and if I didn’t join dance sophomore year I don’t know if I would have found my best friend today. Being able to share a creative space with others and really let your inner self open up for everyone to see is vulnerable and frightening, but it will create such strong bonds with others. Having this ability and the opportunities to open myself up to movement and exploration has made my high school experience one to remember. One that I will always look back to if and when I get lost, because even if you don’t pursue dance for your entire life, just a small amount of time will not only give you a way to express yourself and develop confidence, but it will also give you friends and family for life. Because even though high school seems so insignificant to the next 70 or so years of my life, the hip hop team, choreography class and dance program as a whole at VHS will always have a place in my heart. Meet the Dancers: This is our sweet Cam She is a Senior and a captain for the Dance Team. Here is what she had to say about being on the team . I've been dancing for 3 years on VHS's Dance Team. I had no dance experience, yet made it on the team my sophomore year with some of my friends. I was shocked. My family was supportive at first and still is, of this thing that I suddenly fell in love with. My whole life became all about dance for the next 3 years, and I would never... change it. Dancing makes me feel like a different person. I can portray different emotions through movement, and give a message through dance. It makes me feel confident. I never thought in a million years that I would be able to perform with such an amazing group of people every year, in front of such massive audiences. The people on the team make me feel the most at home. They are positive, and we lift each other up. I have met the most amazing dancers through the team, and I'll never forget the fun we've had. Meet the Dancers of the VHS Dance Program: This is Chloe, one of our amazing Dance Team Captains Here is what Chloe had to say about her experience .. I’ve been dancing various types of dance since I was 4 years old. I joined dance team my freshman year and stayed with it till my senior year (sad it’s my last year)! Although each year is different, the one thing that stays the same is the family we become. It’s an unbreakable bond between us all. I love dancing in general because you are able to express yourself in another way other than words out loud or on paper. It’s such a unique concept. To keep dance in my life I’ve been doing a couple online classes here and there and just having fun little dance parties with my family all the time.

Meet the Dancers : This is Valerie, one of our beloved Dance Team Captains and here is what she had to say about her experience. I've been dancing for 4 years, 3 years on the team. I joined the team barely being able to stay on beat with music, but somehow I ended up as a captain my 3rd year. Dance is such a great storytelling tool for me and a great way to express things with your body :) I've loved the family that's been created with our teams and I cant wait to see that family grow! We lve you, Val!!

Meet the dancers Karen is a co-captain for the Hip Hop Team . Here is what she had to say about being a part of the program I am Karen Robles, a VHS hip-hop team co-captain. I have been dancing since I was a little girl and have found a strong love and passion for dancing. I’ve been on the hip-hop team for 2 years and enjoy how the team is like a second family to me. I like how we can all express our love and passion for dance through dancing with the team and are always being positive. I will consider continuing my passion for dance in college and take some dance classes. #vhsdanceprogram #vhshiphopteam

Meet the dancers of the VHS Dance Program! This is Wendy , a VHS Hip Hop Team Captain Wendy has been dancing ever since she was little. Shes been on the team for two years and loves dancing with her teammates. She also loves being able to express herself freely. Wendy’s favorite part about this year would be coming to class and getting to see everyone and help Mrs. De Alba. She says The bonds I have with my teammates and coach is something cherish forever!
