"A global relocation isn’t as simple as packing the kids into a woody and going for a drive." - Anthony Brower, Gensler As climate change pushes climate refugees from their homes, the nature of migration politics will need to change too. https://www.metropolismag.com//a-different-kind-of-climat/

In 2008, California set 2030 zero net energy (ZNE) goals for all new construction and half of its preexisting commercial buildings. But how much progress has been made? As decarbonization priorities increase, how relevant is ZNE? Tomorrow's Net Zero Webinar will explore a recent market characterization study of California commercial ZNE buildings that included interviews with over 80 market actors most with experience in ZNE or ultra-efficient buildings. This session will ...identify challenges to ZNE adoption and recommendations for overcoming them, including strategies for codes and standards, reach codes, incentives and financing programs, and training. Finally, the session will describe how ZNE dovetails with decarbonization goals and recommend policies to align ZNE requirements with decarbonization needs. Visit netzeroconference.com/nz20/webinar-series/ to register for our series and to catch tomorrow's session. #NetZeroFuture.

To help build a net zero future faster, we're giving out $10 Grubhub gift cards to any attendee who completes our new ABCs of ZNE workshop -- a *free*, four-hour seminar that will dive into the methodology, perspective, technology, and future forecasting of zero net energy (ZNE) buildings. Sessions will be available through November register today to claim your spot! https://www.verdicalgroup.com/ne/the-abcs-of-zne-workshops/ #NetZero #greenbuilding #energy #engergyefficiency #ClimateCrisis #technology #thegrid #design #architecture #construction #engineering #sustainability #equity #resiliency #environment #NetZeroFuture
The often-discussed solution to the scarcity of buildable lots in Los Angeles is to build taller; however, the building code and economics of building up nearly always preclude that same possibility for low-income housing projects. Mass timber structures have the potential to fill in the gap between the economics and push the height of low-income development up to 12 to 18 stories, thereby presenting a new model for building low-income multifamily properties while helping solve Los Angeles’ homelessness. Visit netzeroconference.com/nz20/webinar-series/ to register for our series and to catch Monday's session at 11am with Sierra Atilano, Chief Real Estate Officer at Skid Row Housing Trust, as we look at "Bridging Permanent Supportive Housing with Sustainable Design." We look forward to continuing the conversation around a #NetZeroFuture.
We're so thrilled to have provided #LEED Consulting for PCL Construction's Glendale District Office, one of a handful of projects to engage the Safety First pilot credit! The tenant improvement project earned v4 ID+C Silver Certification.
