The Orange County Chapter of the Association of Environmental Professionals (OCAEP) is accepting applications from students for the 2019 Scholarship Program! VCS Environmental has donated matching funds, up to $5,000 to the student scholarship fund. OCAEP will award FOUR graduate scholarships (two full time scholarships at $2,500 and two part time scholarships at $1,000) as well as TWO undergraduate scholarships ($1,500 each for full time undergrads) to students pursuing careers in the environmental field! Denise and Lynne gave their annual donation totaling $500 to the Esperanza Education Center Pancake Breakfast that took place over the weekend! The Esperanza Education Center in Mission Viejo provides education and job training for disabled high schoolers and adults to the age of 22. The Esperanza PTA’s fundraising goal is to purchase a wheelchair bus to transport students to job sites and field trips.

Sean has chosen to give his annual donation to HearAid Foundation. HearAid Foundation is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to helping people hear as well and as quickly as possible. HearAid serves children and adults who are in need of immediate hearing intervention, with a high standard of care to ensure that each patient doesn’t get just any hearing devices but gets the right hearing devices and solutions under the care of a doctor. Erin elected to divide her $250 donation between two organizations: Merlin’s Kids and Tender Loving Canines. Both organizations are dedicated to providing trained service dogs to people in need. Each organization has a number of programs they feature on their websites, including one such program at Tender Loving Care where prisoners in correctional facilities train dogs (some rescue dogs) who are ultimately placed with someone in need of a service animal. Jake has chosen to give his annual donation to Backcountry Hunters and Anglers (BHA). They are involved in Public Land/Water protections and have opened up access to thousands of acres of land. Currently, over 9.5 million acres of Public Land in the US are inaccessible to the public due to lack of easements and what is called landlocking (public land completely surrounded by private land). BHA does a great job at taking a non-partisan approach to conservation. Congratulations to Max, our GIS specialist, on passing the FAA Part 107 Unmanned Aircraft Systems Aeronautical Knowledge Exam! Max can now collect data for our projects using a drone!

VCS presented a $5,000 scholarship to Shaina Patel last night at the WTS-OC Annual Awards and Scholarship Gala. Shaina is a college undergraduate who plans on opening her own firm someday. Congratulations Shaina and to all the scholarship recipients!

VCS is proud to be adopting a family with Miracles for Kids this holiday season! Daniel and Lynne have also chosen to put their annual donations towards this cause to give this family a very special holiday this year! The 2018 Holiday Basket of Miracles is a delivery program that provides food, seasonal gifts, and household necessities to families struggling to survive as a result of caring for their critically-ill child.
