Not a great weekend for outdoor activity. Please avoid wilderness activites and stay hydrated. Some Conejo Valley trails are currently closed until Monday.

This past Thursday Team 1 was called out to Lockwood Valley to assist with two people who were stranded near Sunset campground. After an approximate 8 mile journey navigating over rough terrain, the subjects were located uninjured and transported back to safety.

Our team spent Sunday night bushwacking through overgrown canyons, in waist high water, looking for a father, his 11-year-old son, and their dog after they were reported overdue on a hike from Pyramid Lake to Piru Creek. The Ventura County Air Unit joined the search at first light and by mid morning father, son, and dog were found and airlifted to the command post at Lake Piru, safe and healthy. #vcsar1 #searchandrescue #venturacountysheriff #soothersmaylive #teamwork #knowbeforeyougo @ Lake Piru

Today Ventura County Search and Rescue -Team 1 battled the snow and wind in the 3rd and final test to become fully accredited through the Mountain Rescue Association (MRA). We have spent months and countless hours training hard and preparing for this moment. We are dedicated in training to serve our great community and those who call on us in their time of need.

We spent the night searching for an overdue hiker down in Sycamore Canyon with our sister team at VCSAR3. Teams on foot, quads, motorcycles and air support eventually found the subject alive and well on the cliffs below the Boneys. Thanks to great teamwork, search management and a lucky break in the fog.

Team members got more than they bargained for at this weekends all-night search for a missing hiker. Extremely low visibility and dense brush required a post-search for ticks looking for a free ride. It gives new meaning to search and rescue!
