Studies show the act of giving brings positive physical and metal effects to the giver. Today is Giving Tuesday! Take a moment to watch this video of VCH's patient, Mario, as he shares why he chose to come to VCH, and how it has greatly impacted his wellbeing as one of our doctors diagnosed and directed his treatment of a life-threatening brain tumor. Mario is now healthy and thriving and so grateful for the care he received at VCH. https://youtu.be/D7lgGuZRQXE... It's stories like these that make donating to VCH so important. We couldn't do this without the support of our community and generous donors like you. Please use #GivingTuesday as the day you choose to donate to help others like Mario. Please Donate Now! https://bit.ly/39xYVeo

This year the gift we want to share is good health. We have learned that small pleasures and spending time with the people we care about are more important than the gifts we traditionally exchange. Wishing you laughter and happiness as you celebrate the spirit of the holidays safely or virtually and with peace of mind.

Did you know that you can speak to your doctor about your health in the safety of your home? We are able to schedule you a telephone or video visit with your provider so that you do not need to go out into public spaces. If you have a refill request, need lab results, or have a scheduled follow-up, you can use a telehealth visit to manage your health. Don't put off your annual visits, medication refills, lab tests, and immunizations; call for an appointment and we will take care of you. Be safe, be well.

The holiday season and winter are often an emotionally challenging time for many people. The social restrictions caused by the pandemic make it even harder to cope. Remind yourself that it will not always be like this. Do what works for you to keep your thoughts as positive as possible. Try creating a gratitude journal, exercise daily, practice your faith, focus on being positive and hopeful, and avoid negative thinking. Create a joy-filled calendar for listening to a personal playlist, catching up on movies, and binge-watching your favorite series. Stay hopeful! The new year holds the promise of better times.

Flu and Coronavirus are caused by different viruses but are both are contagious respiratory illnesses. Some of the symptoms are very similar, but only COVID-19 causes loss of taste or smell. It is important to know that there is a vaccine to protect against the flu, but there is no vaccine to prevent Coronavirus. It may take longer for people to know they are infected. It's almost flu season, and you can get a free flu shot with or without insurance at your local pharmacies. Get vaccinated today to protect yourself and your family and wear a mask.

It is easy to put off getting a mammogram, but don't! Other than skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer found in women. Early detection is important in managing the disease, so continue to keep your regularly scheduled appointment. And don't forget to perform monthly self checkups to keep your health on track!

During the holiday season, we usually go to parties, meet up with friends, visit our family, and travel on vacation. This year is different! After months of personal distancing and isolation from loved ones, our emotional well-being has been affected, and we take chances when we go out. Be aware that random intimate activities can result in adverse health outcomes such as STIs, HIV, or unintended pregnancy. Clinical specialists provide young adults with a safe, confidential, and trustworthy environment to get prevention information and treatment, and VCH's Smart Health LA disease prevention and treatment center provides confidential testing and treatment of HIV, Hep C, and PrEP along with emotional counseling.
