Vietnamese American Nongovernmental Organization Network (VA-NGO)

A team meeting and training on data management and evaluation systems led by Tuan-Anh, our staff. He joined HIPE as a Peer Healtb Educator leading health sessions, then became a core member supporting program activities and now he is our staff in charge of data management and evaluation systems for our programs. He is presenting on what has been done and he will train a few other youths to be a part of this Data Management and Evaluation team.

Presented collaboratively by the Vietnamese American Non-Governmental Organization (VANGO) Network and the Cambodian American Resource Agency (CARA), Mekong: River of Melodies feature creative performing art works from the cultures along the Mekong region and river. Talented transcontinental musicians and artists, with roots in the Mekong region but homes in the Bay Area, will be presenting Vietnamese and Cambodian traditional music. The Emmy award winning performer and compo...ser Van Vo and vocalist and choreographer Charya Burt, an Isadora Duncan Award recipient, open the piece with a new overture to Touch Yum by combining Vietnamese instrumentation with Khmer vocals. Additionally, a new arrangement of Khmer classical music called Touch Yum, or The Gibbon’s Cries will be highlighted. This arrangement, by Professor Keo Dorivan, explores a piece of Cambodian music through a multicultural instrumental approach through the use of Cambodian, Vietnamese, Thai, American Jazz, and Mariachi instruments and the improvisational techniques found within those traditions.
