Here’s lookin at you, 2021. Our chickens are 8 weeks old now and about 10 or so inches tall all the way upright. They have started picking feathers or running away with feathers that fall. They love greens, herbs, veggies and fruit especially Swiss Chard and Pechay. They are requiring less labor than I thought and it has been fun taking care of them with Kira, our fearless Chicken Whisperer. Flock Dynamics are starting to change. A few weeks ago I observed Sunshine and Fe...ather Feet lightly coping or crowing as the sun peaked at sunrise. They all froze and their eyes went glassy and dome-y. Then a minute or so later it passed and they went about their business. I’m hoping we only have one Roo at the most, but only time will tell. Raven is filling out and her tail feathers have pointed up. She is definitely a Pullet. It’s the other three that I’m unsure about. All are growing out wattles and some of their combs are turning light red. It’s been magical to see their progress. Like in many other areas and neighborhoods throughout the county, the rats are showing their prescience since restaurants don’t have as much food waste. We have been keeping the coop covered up at night inside the greenhouse and now I have to make sure the food is covered and the door and vents are closed with just a sliver of opening for ventilation. Or is that still inviting danger? It’ll be 10-12 more weeks before the chickens lay their first eggs. Here’s to an abundant and fruitful 2021.

Tried out @thepaletabarsd on my way home from a home walk through and I couldn’t leave my fam hanging. Left to right from top: Strawberry dipped in whites chocolate and sprinkles, Dutch Chocolate dipped in milk chocolate, almonds and topped with dark chocolate, Cotton candy dipped in white choc and sprinkles, Cookies n Creme dipped in milk chocolate and Oreo crumbs, Avocado dipped in white choc and pistachios, and Taro naked and unafraid. It’s time to dust off the shelves and clean the air vents before we hunker down for Fall.

We finally tried @jauntcoffeeroasters this morning and @hifiphotosd wants to come back. We really loved our Caramel Black Salt Lattes in iced and hot versions, chicken empanadas, corn and basil empanadas, and blueberry lemon scone. There was a lot of sharing going on The service was great and they had their mask and social distance protocols well marked.
