Red Ribbon Week is this week! As parents, this week is a great time to have the serious dialogue with our kids about the dangers of drugs. Please encourage your kids to participate in our contest below. HISTORY OF RRW - Red Ribbon Week was started when drug traffickers in Mexico City murdered DEA agent Kiki Camarena in 1985. This began the continuing tradition of displaying red ribbons as a symbol of intolerance toward the use of drugs... #redribbonweek2020 #weareallvikings #boltsfromtheblue

Our PTA has an exciting opportunity for you! The Valley View PTA is forming a NOMINATING COMMITTEE to seek candidates to fill the PTA Executive Board for next school year, 2021-22. The committee consists of 5 PTA members and 2 alternates. Your job will be to find the best candidates to fill all the positions. Every position is open every year. If people have not served for 2 years, they may choose to serve again next year. We will meet virtually 1-2 times to discuss o...ur progress. Involvement in the PTA provides a unique understanding of our school and community. Remember we are only as strong as our members and our children are the real reason to participate. The elected PTA Board positions are: President 1st Vice President/Ways & Means 2nd Vice President/Programs 3rd Vice President/Membership Secretary Treasurer Auditor Historian We will present the names at the March Association Meeting. If you are willing to be on the nominating committee, please contact the Nominating Committee Chairperson, Maureen Ryan at [email protected] We need to have the names for the nominating committee by October 31, 2020 as they are due by our November 10, 2020 meeting. Thank you so much for your participation.

Hello Vikings! We really, really need your help right now more than ever. Sunday, 10/18 is your absolute last chance to help us fill Valley View's blank yearbook pages with photos. Since we are not on campus together for the yearbook staff to do this for you, we need to work together to not only create a yearbook to look back on this school year, but a history book to remember how we persevered through the 2020-2021 school year like the unexpected BOLTS from the BLUE that we ...all are. I promise you won't regret following these 3 steps: 1. Answer this question: What is your favorite outside activity? 2. Attach this photo: Please attach a photo of you doing your favorite outdoor activity 3. Complete this simple Google form to turn in your baby photo (for 8th graders only), pet photo, sports/hobby photo, summer vacation photo, quarantine/mask/distance learning photo, flashback photo, sibling photo, selfie, and fashion trend photo: https://forms.gle/wdL8vsC3ETuRvLE78 Thank you SO much in advance for all your help. The yearbook staff truly appreciates YOU! Hannah Ginnever

Dear Simi Valley Schools Community: Earlier tonight the SVUSD School Board met in an emergency meeting to discuss having our students return to their schools for in-person/blended instruction, if families choose this option. The end result of tonight’s meeting is that students in grades Junior Kindergarten/Transitional Kindergarten (JK/TK) through Grade 3 will be provided the option of returning to their schools for in-person/blended instruction beginning on Monday, November ...2. Tomorrow, (Friday, October 9), we will email out detailed information about what each model will look like; what health and safety guidelines will be required of staff and students while on campus; and what families can expect for both models in terms of schedules, instructional times and more. On Monday, October 12, a survey will be emailed to only our JK/TK through Grade 3 families from their schools to ask if they wish to move their child(ren) into the in-person/blended instruction model or if they wish to remain in the virtual instruction model. PLEASE NOTE: Because of the planning involved for the November 2 return, it is vital that we have your answers submitted by Wednesday, October 14. A family’s commitment to either model for the remainder of this semester (until December 17) will not be a commitment for next semester’s instruction. We will ask you again before the end of the year what your preference will be for the second semester of the 2020-2021 school year. For our families in grades 4 through 12, the School Board voted to offer families the option of having their children return to their schools for in-person/blended instruction beginning on Tuesday, January 5, at the start of the second semester for the 2020-2021 school year. We will provide ALL of our families with the information needed at that time to make an informed decision about the remainder of the school year. I want to again thank our community for their patience. I know how incredibly stressful all of this is for our families and staff. It is essential for our students that their return to school, even for partial days as we start this process, is as smooth and safe as possible. We are excited about the prospect of seeing some of our students again and for those who choose to remain in virtual instruction, we will continue to support you through your online learning. Sincerely, Dr. Jason Peplinski Superintendent
