When you recycle your electronics, you do more than just reduce the amount of waste going in the landfills. You also help reduce the amount of pollution generated during manufacturing, and reduce the amount of energy it takes to make a new product.
Before we begin any project, we conduct a site assessment. We know that time is money, and we use those processes that extract the refrigerant quickly. For example, we use the shortest hoses possible, identify the refrigerant before we start, and attempt to recover from both the high and low side service ports simultaneously.
Did you know that the plastic used to house computer towers and monitors is ideal for recycling? Since it is already the right grade needed by electronics, it can be easily recycled into new housing for similar items.
Were you aware that the U.S. throws away about 90 percent of all newspapers every week? This wastes about 500,000 trees. It’s important to know that all newspaper is recyclable and will reduce the amount of waste in landfills.
Some electronics use heavy metals (lead, cadmium, etc.) in their manufacture and these materials need to be kept out of landfills. E-cycling is the most efficient way to safely remove and redirect them for reuse or safe disposal.
Did you realize that the average infant goes through around 8,000 diapers? If those diapers are the "disposable" variety, they'll actually survive in landfills for hundreds of years -- certainly long enough to be a problem for your children's children.
Because of the materials used in their creation, and the increases in technology that have improved our ability to recycle materials, almost every component used in today's electronic devices can be recycled.
On the one hand, the country has improved its recycling of paper products since 1990, increasing the rate by 89 percent in just 20 years. But there is still a ways to go: If Americans today recycled just 1/10 of the newspapers they throw away, that would save an estimated 25 million trees a year.
Advances in technology have led to the development of blended refrigerants, and these new products require increasingly sophisticated equipment for capture and disposal. If your equipment uses one of these refrigerants, call us for assistance.
Plastic is a problem because it’s very cheap to produce, and it’s not biodegradable because of its long, complex molecular chains. When plastic is recycled, however, the resulting material can be used in many different ways, such as to create fleece fabric, durable construction materials, molded furniture, or insulation.
Household refrigerators and freezers that were manufactured before 1995 typically contain the chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) refrigerant. Proper disposal of this refrigerant is important, as CFCs are ozone depleters that, if released into the environment, destroy the protective ozone layer above the Earth.
Are you unsure of how your computer equipment has been disposed of in the past? Receiving a certificate of proper disposal can help set your mind at ease and cover you with regulators.
Technology advancements have led to the production of refrigeration devices that cool more effectively, but use much less refrigerant. A modern refrigerator, for instance, may contain as few as one or two ounces of refrigerant.
