Position is 48 hrs. per month (two 4-day weekends, Thursday through Sunday, twice monthly). $12 hr Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, proficient in Microsoft Office, possess good customer service skills, be willing to interact with the general public in person and via telephone, and be willing to interact with shelter animals. Happy Halloween! We know that Halloween is fun for us as humans, but did you know that it can be stressful and scary for pets? Here are a few extra safety measures to help keep our furry friends safe while we celebrate!

UPDATE: We just received word from our veterinarian that they were able to take Xrays of Bixby's mouth once he was under anesthesia. They discovered the worst possible scenario. What we expected to be a severe case of dental disease was actually bone cancer and it had completely eaten away his lower jaw. The veterinarian stated that he would not have a good quality of life and that the cancer would continue to eat away at his bones. The veterinarian stated that the only h...umane thing to do, to end Bixby's suffering, was euthanasia. It is with extremely broken hearts that we write to say that we followed our veterinarian's advise. Bixby has crossed the rainbow bridge and is now pain free. We truly appreciate the generosity of everyone that donated toward the cost of his surgical procedure ($460 for today's visit). We couldn't do what we do without your support. It is truly appreciated. Hi Facebook Friends. Bixby needs your help!! Bixby was found as a stray at a dog park in Exeter. He was taken to Visalia Animal Services in the hope that they could find his owner. Unfortunately, no owner came to claim him so we brought him to our shelter. Bixby came to us with a massive amount of oral abscesses and tooth decay. We were able to get the abscesses under control with antibiotics but now he is scheduled for his dental work. This is where he needs your help!! The initial estimate for the cost of his dental treatments is $495-$679 depending on the amount of work that needs to be done. His mouth is still very tender so our veterinarian will not be able to determine the full extent of treatment that will be needed until he is under anesthesia. We are asking for donations to help cover the costs of these much needed services. Bixby is very thin but, due to his terrible dental condition, he will not be able to put on any significant weight gain until this dental treatment is completed. He is scheduled for his treatment for Friday, Oct 30 at 8am. All amounts are truly appreciated. NOTICE: Adoption Fee Increase. For the past two years we have experienced two instances of increased costs of spay/neuter AND two instances of increased costs for animal vaccines. We have been absorbing these additional increases during that timeframe but the time has come that we must increase our adoption fees to help offset these additional expenses. Effective October 8, 2020 our adoption fees will be as follows: Cats/Kittens - Standard Breeds - $125 Cats/Kittens - Sp...ecialty Breeds/Purebreds - $150 Long-Term cats (at shelter over 6 mos.) - $75 Puppies (12 mos. and under)- $225 Dogs (1 yr. and older) - $200 Long-Term dogs (at shelter over 6 mos.)- $150 We realize the need for our senior citizens to have companion animals. For that reason we will be maintaining our current adoption fee of $100 for our "Senior to Senior Dog Adoption Program". Any senior citizen (over the age of 65) that adopts a dog (over the age of 4 yrs) will receive the special discount price. Adoption fees include: Spay/neuter, microchip, vaccinations (through the date of adoption), dewormer, and flea/tick treatment (seasonal). Please know that we have not made this decision lightly and we will continue to make every effort to keep our adoption fees as affordable as possible.
