Somewhere, somebody is spreading information that is incorrect, I believe it is the usual "they"! In our classes we DO NOT prohibit IWB holsters. We want you to practice/train with the holster you carry (exception coming soon) for it makes no sense not too. Now if you are in the place that you are not sure how you want to carry, we get that. There are some out there who discourage IWB carry because it is dangerous. Carrying/handling/training with guns IS dangerous if common s...ense and logic are not applied. A gun in an IWB is no more dangerous than one in an OWB. From the standpoint ,if you get a finger too early or too late on the trigger during exit or approach to the holster and you fire a shot...you might get hit. So selection of a holster is a big process and sometimes takes many attempts to get it right for you. So IWB/OWB is your choice on belt mounted holsters. Now here is the exception. We do not allow "appendix carry" in class. The gun is worn directly in front of the body. I will not say this is not a viable/popular way to carry but it IS potentially more dangerous than a side mounted holster in the event of the too early/too late finger on the trigger situation. A projectile in the groin is going to significantly impact your day and we don't want that to occur on our facility. So if you have an IWB please bring it to class without reservation. If you only have an "appendix" holster just move it to the side, simple fix. Hopefully, this will answer this question, finally, VDC Inc. DOES NOT PROHIBIT IWB HOLSTERS in class! See more

Just a general question, not really requiring an answer. Maybe an observation more than a question. Why, is it in this time of COVID concerns do people drive to the post office, with their 5 kids and spouse, mask everyone up, go inside, stand in line to hand the postal worker a stamped envelope to "drop" in the mail. They drove/walked past at least 3 drop boxes. Is this some sort of "outing" for people. I see this nearly every day. It is mind boggling. One day while separatin...g my trash mail for the shred box I watched a guy and 3 kids walk in stand in front of the 3 mail boxes in the lobby and looked as if he was contemplating what to do. After nearly a minute, he took the ONE stamped letter he had in his hand and his 3 masked kids into the post office and took his place in line. Is this really that complicated and bewildering? Have they not made it obvious that this is a place where mail goes? There are numerous places within the building, well marked I may add , with directions for depositing mail all locations are marked in more than English. I then thought to myself, I hope this guy can't vote. I guess the government needs to do something! (joke) See more

While it comes as no surprise to anyone, ammunition is very difficult to find let alone purchase. Last week I saw a company in Minden, NV selling 1000 round cases of 9mm for $754. I received an ad from GunBroker today claiming that they had "millions" of boxes of ammo for sale. When you go look at the site, they are selling it by bid, like eBay! So unfortunately the scalpers are staying busy. We receive calls daily wanting to know if we know where the ammo is, I do not, sadly, and my crystal ball is not functioning. The same situation, as many of you know ,is following the firearm supply too. This is another example of staying prepared this has hit us like the toilet paper issue, who would have thought! Stay focused, do not panic it only makes it worse but use this as future reference as can anyone ever have "too much" ammo?

Over the last three months we have traveled widely across the west, Oregon/Idaho/Montana/Wyoming and most recently Nevada. There is very little ammo to be found in both small and large stores. If there was a quantity anywhere you were limited on purchase. So it is not just California! Last weekend we conducted a 3 day pistol/carbine/shotgun course in Carson City, Nevada. The students had to scrounge for ammo and could find no shotgun ammo (other than steel shot hunting shells)... We had to raid a store here to get the ammo they needed, we got lucky! For us shooters this situation is dire. My contact in the business can't get straight or satisfactory answers from suppliers. I have inquired with a couple of distributors and get varied answers ranging from COVID induced production slow down to raw material shortfalls. I wonder where raw materials come from? We have experienced this before, however this time it seems worse, maybe because it is stacked on top of everything else! So now my suggestion of buying $5-10 thousand in ammo doesn't sound so excessive does it? Remember when this clears up, plan ahead, way ahead as this WILL happen again and often. In the mean time consider you still have things to do: dry practice, never let up! Consider an airsoft/bb replica pistol. If you are a reloader you best go on the hunt for powder/primers/pellets(projectiles). I try not to believe there is a design in all of this but it is hard not to believe this is just chance. If you look at the industry ,large companies of unknown backing are buying these manufactures, combining product lines and could very easily just quit manufacturing guns/ammo altogether. Currently , for example a company called the Freedom Group owns Remington and about 7 other firearm companies like Marlin and DPMS. So while everyone in the industry says the Freedom Group's main owner the Cerebus Group is run by sportsmen and industry folks, who is to say at what price they would sell and to whom? Any business is about profit (or politics). So remember when this turns around, make the adjustments you need and get a quantity of ammo and don't wait. Unfortunately history often repeats itself. We are still getting questions about wearing a mask and carrying a gun. If you are wearing a mask to comply with the law/mandate/suggestion/requirement for COVID-19 suppression/prevention and carrying a gun per your permit you ARE NOT in violation of the law in Kalifornia. Please read Kalifornia Penal Code sections 25300(a) and 185. Both require that you be attempting to hide your identity or evade capture by wearing a disguise or mask. Go read it and carry on!

Just spent a few minutes reading CA SB 118. Amidst the pharmacy type regulations and other stuff is gun items, more prohibitions of course. Starting in 2023 gun dealers are now the only way to get "gun parts" and it will involve a background process like the ammo thing currently in place. I found nothing there surprising or unexpected, except this...: a semiautomatic firearm that is NOT a pistol, rifle, or a shotgun". If someone could explain please what this means or what this device would be to me I would appreciate it

Depending on where you look the states that "require" masks number between 26 and 40. Also 27 states have democrat governors and oddly enough each one with the "D" as governor requires masks. Go figure. Just got back from a Idaho/Montana/Wyoming/Nevada/Oregon..guess which ones have masks requirements? Its not Wyoming or Idaho,I guess because their republican governors are willing to let the citizens figure out "the science"and live their lives free! Everyone I talked to in Montana said, they require it but they they can't make me! Seems this type of "governing" was rebuked about 244 years ago.

Cops SHOULD NOT be enforcing mask violations or responding to calls from businesses about customers not wearing them.

Valley Defense 03.08.2020

So how about this for a solution..lets make a law that equally applies to ALL people regardless of race/gender/religious belief, and it would read "don't break the law and you won't have an encounter with law enforcement"...I think we already have a bunch of those, I think. Maybe not that plainly worded but kind of the same.

Well here we go again..mask/no mask/re-mask. So for anyone considering or coming to class for the near future ,the mask (in my opinion) is your option. With the amount of information and misinformation we have had about this from the beginning, it is impossible to know what is right. Do what is right for you! Ammo is at a premium folks, so get it when/where you can. Now is the time to again consider that credit union loan for 5-10k to buy ammo. Many shops still operating on m...odified hours and little to no product availability, so this does not help either. We get many requests from new potential gun owners about what to buy. We recommend a short list of guns, any Glock, Smith&Wesson Shield in 9mm and Kahr PM9. Ok I understand there are other guns out there, some of good quality and while not trying to offend anyone's favorite gun here is why we suggest the above pistols. Gun shops tend to want to sell you what they have in stock, not always what you want, or need. In the nearly 30 years of doing ,this the above guns WORK! We see every gun out there and these 3 are without question the most reliable and user friendly, and usually available. While many gun "problems" are shooter related, these 3 are forgiving to some degree for even shooter errors. If you look around you see people doing reviews of "great" guns but.....they are not available in Kalifornia. So what is the point of detailing how great a gun that you can't buy is? No matter what you decide ,especially if buying multiple guns try to stay at least with in the same caliber. This makes your life much less complicated when considering ammo supply. Bare minimum to have on hand, 2000 rounds. As soon as you deplete 500, replace it. We also want to thank all of our students old and new that have trusted us with their safety and allowed us to provide their training needs. We know everyone has choices, and we and our staff appreciate the confidence you have in us. During these times of turmoil, and unpredictability remember that a gun won't save you and no one is coming to your rescue. YOU must be you own security detail! Stay vigilant, do not let others dictate what you do to accomplish that safety. A gun and the ability/knowledge of how and when to use it can be of great comfort. We are local, we never shut down, our staff and training facilities and partners want to continue to provide the best training available in the area. We offer a broad selection of classes and will be adding more classes soon. Look for our specialty classes and even some out of state ventures we are working on. Stay safe, stay vigilant..AWARENESS and AVOIDANCE!

As was predictable with current events,George Floyd has become lost in the fray. While it may seem all of this is because of Mr. Floyd's death it was only a spring board for those who wish our society harm. All of this has caused me to do some honest research about the premise of the complaint and validity of the claims that are made by groups that are promoting this "response" Here is a name no one has heard of, Kelly Stephens, Juneau AK. Unarmed white man killed by police 1...Continue reading

Folks who are looking to get Initial CCW or renewing, PLEASE read your issuing agency's online info. It is all there! We still have people confused about the required hours, what qualification needs to be done etc. It is all on the agency website. We still have numerous folks showing up without their gear to renew classes. (No hat/glasses/belt/holster/yes, sometimes no gun) This doesn't have to be a stressful ordeal. get your things in order, give yourself the 90 day window t...o renew, relax. I think one of the biggest issue folks are having is locating ammo. A situation that is not likely to get better anytime soon. As most of you can now see with ALL that is going on, and we also have our state government working against us this is going to continue to be an issue. For the last 4 years I have been ringing that bell about buying ammo. Going to the credit union and getting a loan if need be of $5-10K and buy ammo. That suggestion seemed excessive to many, but how about now? Even if you decide to do it now, you will have an extremely difficult time finding any substantial quantity of ammo, anywhere. We have very short memories as this happens every few years during political seasons or civil discord as we are now seeing. People wait until it's too late, thus the lines outside of gun shops. Hopefully this will subside soon , but in about in about 5 months another event will most likely create another panic. So get some AMMO...and train/practice/shoot.

We all watched in horror this week as we witnessed a man loose his life on our TV. It was one of the most difficult things I have ever watched. NO ONE attempted to intervene! The other cops could have prevented this. The citizens who were so eager to make a video of it also did NOTHING. As a former cop ,I can find no words sufficient to describe what we saw happen. The usual horrifying/appalling/sickening don't even come close. I am outraged for the LE profession, the 99.99...% who are again thrown to the wolves by the darkness of one callous horrible act of a small group. However, I am just as horrified by the acts that followed. There is no excuse whatsoever for the violence perpetrated, again, by a relatively small group on that Minnesota community. The usual suspects of politicians/media/actors immediately defend these actions. This is /was no protest. It was wholesale destruction placing hundreds of people already hurting from the last two months of chaos in a great deal of danger and personal risk. Reportedly a CCN news crew gets arrested for failing to move when told to by the police. After being released the Chief issued an apology....really. Where was the apology to Mr. Floyds family? Where is the apology to the good citizens of that community who had stay in their homes in fear and had some of their homes and places they shop destroyed? As a former cop I'am ashamed that agencies allow this type of behavior to go unabated and...unpunished. The Chief said it was too risky to send his officers in because people were throwing rocks and firebombs at them. You throw a firebomb at a cop you need to get a 5.56 round to the sternum in return. A couple of those and I believe the violence would subside. People pushing a false narrative have again been allowed to tear away at the fabric and soul of our society with no reckoning in sight. The true tragedy will be lost amidst this turmoil and that is unfortunate, very unfortunate. Mr. Floyd's life will become a footnote. Worst of all, now that justice is rolling, regardless of the final verdict, this will happen again!

With a bit of idle time we have again been looking through the waves of facebook panic. People waited until the SHTF to buy guns/ammo etc now wonder why they cant get their stuff. That question has only one answer, improper preparation. It seems this happens every couple of years and then people forget. But each time it happens the government takes a little more slack out of the rope they have around our collective necks. Yet we go back to life as before thinking "this can't ...happen". Well, it has, does, and will continue until the rope is cinched. I have said this before, when this blows over, and it will, go get a loan and buy ammo/magazines (10 rounders are good enough) Buy a duplicate or two of the guns you have (for parts). Limit your calibers to limit what you have to stock. Go get your CCW if you think you need it, quit complaining about the process/cost/time if you want one , get it! Quit putting pictures of your stuff on facebook. Quit telling everyone how much guns/ammo/food/toilet paper you have. Quit letting your gun stuff sit in the safe. Quit relying on people on facebook to tell you where to buy or not buy stuff. Quit asking who is doing CCW classes. Quit asking facebook what this city/county requires to process a CCW. Do your own research and get answers from the source, not the peanut gallery. Start being responsible for yourself, depend on your self because in the next chapter that is the only thing that is going to help you. There were a lot of "quits" in this rant, so here is a couple "starts". Start planning ahead, start writing angry demanding but civil letters to these tyrants in Sacramento and Washington. Start not being surprised when events like this happen next week/month/year. Be prepared. This message approved by VDC Inc. World Headquarters.
