First Monday of the month might as well make it a #MythBustingMonday ! If you heard this myth and thought it was fact, then you heard wrong!
Today is the day!!! Let the festival begin! The 2020 Vacaville Festival of Trees will be running all November! November is a month for THANKS and we are so thankful to have the support of our community for 30 years! ... This year is a little different, we are homeless! But we are grateful to be able to find businesses to host our homeless trees so the community can still enjoy the fun and tradition! Can you believe this year marks 30 years of raising funds for The Opportunity House? Restrictions instituted after the pandemic emerged in mid-March forced Opportunity House to temporarily close its Vacaville thrift store, typically an ongoing source of revenue, and cancel or scale back other fundraisers. Meanwhile, the shelter has continued to serve 30 to 40 adults and children each day, providing them a place to live, meals, and programs designed to get them back on their feet. This year, the shelter needs support more than ever. Let’s start the Thanksgiving season off with some Christmas Trees!
A sneak peak at one of our trees this year! Just because we can not supply a home for our trees this year doesn’t mean the community can’t! This year our trees are homeless and crashing at some of our amazing community member’s business’! You have all month to check them out!
Opportunity House Homeless Shelter presents "Thoughtful Thursdays". We all know that homelessness exists in our community, but do we know what causes homelessne...ss or how to help? Each Thursday, over the next few weeks, our posts will be offering information, education, and resources so everyone in our community has an opportunity to achieve success. Look for this weekly series beginning tomorrow, Thursday, October 15, 2020 at 10am. See more
Congratulations, Lucy Varges, Bartender at Los Reyes Restaurante Y Cantina and creator of the signature cocktail, "Heatwave", the winning cocktail of this year'...s Cocktail for a Cause! We want to thank again, all the participating bartenders, locations, sponsors, and community members, who took part in this year's event!
This year's Festival of Trees will look a little different, since we cannot gather together, but the goal is the same: To raise funds for Opportunity House, Vacaville's homeless shelter. For the past 29 years, Festival has been the major annual fundraiser that has kept the shelter running, thanks to the outstanding support of our community. We have adjusted how the event will run this year, but you can be assured it will be the best Festival of Trees 2020 can offer! As we come to a new week we are still recovering as a community from devastating outcomes of the LNU Lightning Complex Fire. Our community residents, friends, a...nd supporters have been displaced and some have lost everything. Our Shelter was ordered to evacuate, which did cause some panic and stress. We have since been able to return and we are grateful to be able to once again create a safe place for our residents. We would like to thank you all for your thoughts, prayers, and donations. Yes, we are still able to receive food donations at the Shelter and thankful to all who continue to show your generosity.
A fun way to support Opportunity House as well as local businesses!
Vacaville Festival of Trees going virtual for 2020!!! Vacaville Festival of Trees will take on a very new look this year as the annual Christmas tree auction moves completely online. The annual fundraiser for Opportunity House, Vacaville’s homeless shelter, has traditionally been held at the Vacaville Recreation Center on Davis Street for three days the week after Thanksgiving. Planning for Festival and the accompanying Gala dinner begins the previous January, with tasks divi...ded among more than two dozen committees. The event itself requires hundreds of volunteers and draws thousands of visitors. With so much uncertainty about the advisability of gathering in large groups because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the festival’s Executive Committee has decided to move this year’s fundraiser entirely online. This year marks Festival’s 30th anniversary, and plans were already in the works to expand the auction to allow for online bidding. Details are still being worked out, but planners expect to auction off at least 50 table-top trees, as well as a few large trees and wreaths. The online auction will run Nov. 1- 29, with winner notifications on Nov. 30 and tree pick-up/deliveries Dec. 1-4. The traditional Gala Dinner that kicks off Vacaville Festival of Trees has been canceled because of the pandemic. Last year’s Gala auction prizes included the opportunity to be seated at a special table at this year’s Gala. Winner Kathleen Ramos has generously agreed to convert that prize into a sponsorship of this year’s online event and, in doing so, has become the first major sponsor of the 2020 Vacaville Virtual Festival of Trees. Festival of Trees is the primary fundraiser for Opportunity House and money raised at this year’s festival will be especially welcome since the Opportunity House Thrift Store, which also supports the shelter, has had to close during the Shelter at Home orders, resulting in a loss of more than $85,000 to the program. Those wishing to make a direct donation to Opportunity House can learn more here: https://opportunityhouse.us/donate.php. As plans for the Virtual event are rolled out, they will be available on www.vacavillefestivaloftrees.com
