Hello again, on my last message, I informed you that I would list the year availability of Vacaville High School Yearbooks and Jepson Jr. High School Yearbooks we have for purchase, in the event you may have missed purchasing one during your school years, or lost yours. They are: Vacaville High School Years; 1986; 1992; 1993; 1997; 1998; 2001 to 2014. Very limited number of each available. Jepson Jr. High Years: 1984; 1987; 1992; 1994; 1996; 1997; 1999; 2000; 2001; 2002; 200...5 to 2010; 2013 to 2016. In order to sell these out and provide us more storage in our small location, we are requesting $10.00 per high school yearbook or two for $15.00. For the Junior High books, we are requesting $6.00 per book or two for $10.00. All these books are very limited in number and we hope they go fast. So, if you would like to purchase, I am at our location on Tuesdays/Thursdays from 9am to 1pm, sometimes longer, but definitely between 9 and 1 to pick up your selection(s). CAsh or check please. A Thank You to David Trojan, one of our volunteers, who is also an Airplane Archaeologist who searches for lost airplanes and writes reports on what he finds. He came in last week and donated money to us in Memory of Jerry Bowen, who was with us for almost thirty years till his untimely passing, last June. The Vacaville Heritage Council would like to give a big THANK YOU to a couple of locals who recently have aided us in preserving history. The first one goes to Cathy Santopadre; who read on another Facebook page that I wish we'd been able to take pictures of the "Buck" bridge that was being taken out to be replaced. She answered by stating in May of 2020; she went out and took numerous pictures of the bridge for her own memories. She read my post about the wish for pics and ...she made those available to us. THANK YOU Cathy for preserving the past for us, and also your compassion for history will allow us to share that with others into the future. The second person I'd like to Thank, is Jason Welling, Lead Maintenance Worker for the City of Vacaville. A couple of weeks ago, he stopped by the Old Town Hall and I was in, digitizing some history. He informed me that he had asked the contractor to "cut" out the two markers (dates etched in the bridge) as they were historical, and he would like to preserve them. The contractor, obviously also a history buff, did as he requested at no extra charge. Jason took a couple of pics, showed them to me and asked if we'd like to have one of them? Of course, my answer was yes. He stated he would have to ask the city if we could have one and he would bring it in to us if he received permission. Last Thursday, Jason and a co-worker, I apologize that I forgot his co-workers name, brought in the smaller marker and donated it to us. It sits proudly in front of our display cabinet, this 200-250 lb marker. We will research this bridge, and affix a card to it about its history, so that once we re-open, the public can see and read its history. To top it off, Jason stated that normally when something is going to be replaced, refurbished or removed within the city, he hears about it, and he stated if the above affects something he feels is historic to Vacaville, he will alert me so that we can go and take pictures of what is there before it isn't any longer. The Vacaville Heritage Council thanks both Cathy and Jason for their compassion of preserving history. We are all the better for it. So, I am asking the public, if you see or hear of some changes to something historical in Solano County, grab some pictures of it before it happens, and/or contact us at the Vacaville Heritage Council and let us know what is going on so that we may go out and take pictures, or in extreme cases, chain ourselves to it to preserve it. Hello, just wanted to let everyone know that even though we are closed to the public, some of us are still coming in to preserve history. We are installing shelving for storage that we did not have before so that we can get things off the floor and out from under the desks and tidy up our front office so that when we are allowed to open, we hope to be far more presentable. We are still available by email; and voice mail if you have a historical question that we may be able t...o help you with. We have set up our new Large Book Scanner and have moved two of our smaller scanners into another location so that we can scan more efficiently depending on the size of the material that we are scanning. We can now digitize microfilm; documents; photos; negatives; yearbooks; Atlases; and soon even reel to reel tapes. We have a new CD/DVD duplicator that will allow us to burn onto 100 year storage discs information from current CD/DVD's that are getting to the end of their "life span." Can I ask each of you a favor? While we all are currently limited to mass gatherings, would you be interested in sharing your local (Solano County) history for others by allowing us to digitize photos and documents that you may have in photo albums, safe's; etc? Another favor? Does anyone have some pictures and/or information of the "Moose Lodge Pool" that was on Butcher Road? We have six pictures of it, but no information as to who built it, when, and when it was razed. Perhaps you have some interesting stories of things that happened there that you'd like to share. Unfortunately, we are still closed with no open date as of yet. I have been coming in for the last 3 1/2 months and taking advantage of this shutdown to continue to digitize history, and also to create some much needed storage. Our Techie, Brian, also comes in when he can to keep our scanners, computers, software up and running and is creating a new website for us that will have new information on it for you.
