Hi! We are currently looking for volunteers for several different programs! Primarily, the county and our 211 operators need help scheduling vaccine appointments. We could also use additional volunteers for assisting local families with Free Tax Prep (you would be IRS-certified!) and schedulers/processors for other important programs. The need in our community is extra high right now, so any temporary assistance we can get helps us help residents quicker and more efficiently. If you're able to lend a hand, please reach out to [email protected]. Thanks!
This Giving Tuesday, we are asking our supporters to donate to our Creek Fire Relief Fund. Though the fire is now 95% contained and on the Valley floor we can longer see orange skies and fallen ash on our cars, the damage done to homes and livelihoods of residents in our mountain communties is still very much raging on. We are working with local families to help them navigate the chaos, heartbreak, and expenses of rebuilding their lives after this devastating setback. Back in September, we started our relief fund and local residents and community partners quickly helped us raise nearly $125,000 to help with immediate relief. That money has since been used up and these families still desperately need our help. If you can donate, please text CREEKFIREHELP to 44321 or visit bit.ly/CREEKFIREHELP now. Thank you for Living United. <3
Our friends at the African American Coalition, CEP and Fresno Economic Opportunities Commission host NO COST COVID-19 Testing every Tuesday from 3:00pm to 5:00pm at the Fresno EOC Plaza. Testing is free and no insurance is needed.
It has been one week since our capitol building was invaded by domestic terrorists. While we have friends and supporters on both sides of the political aisle, we feel it is important to call this attack out for what it is. We shudder to think of the gruesome what ifs that may have transpired if not for the bravery of people like Officer Eugene Goodman and the quick-thinking escape of our elected officials and their staffs. We imagine a future beyond the reality of freedom, ...liberty, opportunity, and equality only for some. We see the possibility of an America that is truly equitable, truly empathetic, truly great. But it is going to take work, patience, growing pains, and introspection to get there. Read our full statement in the attached release. There are forty million poor people here. And one day we must ask the question, ‘Why are there forty million poor people in America?’ And when you begin to ask that question, you are raising questions about the economic system, about a broader distribution of wealth. When you ask that question, you begin to question the capitalistic economy. And I’m simply saying that more and more, we’ve got to begin to ask questions about the whole society. - MLK’s Last Speech to SCLC Staff entitled Where Do We Go from Here?(August 1967) To sign up for Round Four of our 21-Day Race Equity Challenge, visit http://bit.ly/ROUNDFOUR.

Lindsay, Coreen, and Rico talk about emergency preparedness, where to find resources if you've been affected by the Creek Fire, and how you can help local families.
Please help, if you can! We have an awesome group of Americorp volunteers joining us through April 5th to help out with our Creek Fire relief efforts, our Free Tax Program, and so much more. We are so excited to have them here but we're having a heck of a time finding them housing (although we've been looking for months!), primarily because of the various COVID-19 protocols in place. Does anyone know of a place with about a 30-minute commute to Fresno proper that could acc...ommodate seven people for a few months? We do have a budget to compensate. The volunteers are vetted and follow COVID protocols. They don't need much (they can share rooms, we can help furnish the space, etc). We just need a location that is safe, has showers and a kitchen, and can accommodate all seven of them. We have tried looking into school dorms, apartment complexes, retreat centers, hotels, RV parks, etc. We need someone with a direct connection to housing if possible at this time. Interested parties can DM us here or reach out to Emily at [email protected]. Thank you for any leads!

@ourpromiseca offers state employees the opportunity to utilize payroll deduction to support charitable organizations they feel passionate about. We’re thinking back to past Our Promise presentations at the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board (first pic from 2019, with Our Top 10 Community Partner, @amorelief, and second pic from 2018, with Community Partners from @cencalfoodbank and Deaf and Hard of Hearing Service Center). We can’t wait until we’re able to have these sorts of connections in person again, but for the time being, Zoom meet ups will do! If you’re interested in learning more about bringing Workplace Giving to your company, send us a message! #LiveUnited #GiveUnited

Our team, along with Listos California and many other state and agency partners, joined together to ensure our state’s farm workers are prepared when it comes to emergencies like fire, flood, earthquakes, and COVID-19. We value these relationships with like-minded organizations (and people) more than anything. This is how we get things done. This is how we #LIVEUNITED. If you're interested in emergency preparedness information in multiple indigenous languages, please text VOX to 211211 or visit listoscalifornia.org/farmworker.
Calling all volunteers! We need people to help ensure Fresno and Madera Counties' low-to-moderate-income workers are able to get free tax prep services this spring! Contact [email protected] if you are able to help us serve our community members by becoming an IRS-certified tax prep volunteer! #LiveUnited
Look at the name of our workgroup. It isn’t framed around helping everyone to be richer. It’s about generational wealth very specifically for Communities of Color...We have gotten brave enough to use those words and be unapologetic about it, to be explicit that this is about inclusion and what is best for People of Color."- Our CEO and President, Lindsay Fox Callahan https://ssir.org//a_strategic_plan_to_rebalance_power_in_f

Throwback to some times when we got to celebrate Halloween in the office. However you’re choosing to celebrate (or not) this year, please stay safe, friends.
We couldn't let the month go by without recognizing Filipino American History Month! Filipino Americans are the second largest Asian American group in the nation and the third largest ethnic group in California, after Latinas/os and African Americans. The celebration of Filipino American History Month in October commemorates the first recorded presence of Filipinos in the continental United States, which occurred on October 18, 1587, when Luzones Indios came ashore from the Spanish galleon Nuestra Senora de Esperanza and landed at what is now Morro Bay, California.
