U.S. Universities Continue to Attract International Applicants Take a look at the breakdown of the Early Action results for Princeton University this year. Princeton ranks #1 in the all-important US News & World Report college rankings. It is the elite of the elite. 11% of students admitted in the Early Action round to the Princeton Class of 2022 hailed from outside the United States. And the year before? 11% of students admitted in the Early Action round to the Princeton C...lass of 2021 hailed from outside the United States. Not exactly a decline in international student numbers. And Princeton is not alone. At Dartmouth College, 10% of Early Decision admits to the Class of 2022 were foreign citizens. Admits hailed from 23 countries. For the Class of 2021, 8.3% of Early Decision admits were foreign citizens. Admits hailed from 22 countries. If anything, we’re seeing the reverse trend Dartmouth is admitting more international applicants in the age of the Trump presidency. We can go on and on with case example after case example at our nation’s most elite institutions.

Ivy League Schools' Official Policies on the ACT Officially, all of the Ivy League schools accept both the ACT and SAT, as does every other school in the US. Harvey Mudd was the last no-ACT holdout, but it began accepting the test in 2007. Since it’s a choice you can make, it has the feeling of being a significant choice, fraught with implication, but I don’t think it does matter, Marlyn McGrath-Lewis, director of admissions at Harvard College, told the New York Times. Eit...her is fine with us, and we don’t have a feeling that either favors students with any particular profile. According to ACT, Inc., "The ACT test is the nation’s most popular college entrance exam accepted and valued by all universities and colleges in the United States." The "most popular" comment is just marketing spin, but the basic point stands: every school in the US accepts the ACT and SAT equally. What You Need to Know About the Ivy League and the ACT No matter what you might've heard, Ivy League schools have no preference between the ACT and SAT. You can submit scores from either test or from both of them without worrying that your application will be dinged. Ultimately, choosing between the SAT and the ACT comes down to personal preference. There will occasionally be a large difference between how a student scores on the SAT and the ACT (a difference of more than 100 points once the ACT is converted to its SAT equivalent). Most students, however, score similarly on both tests. Nonetheless, the styles of the two tests are different enough that you may find the ACT easier than the SAT, or vice versa. Perhaps you struggle with the ACT's less generous time limits, or maybe you think the SAT's evidence questions are particularly confusing.

Stanford University Class of 2022 The admissions statistics are in the books for the Stanford University Class of 2022. In all, 2,040 students earned admission to The Farm. 750 of these students were admitted in the Single Choice Early Action round while the remaining 1,290 earned admission in the Regular Decision round. These students were admitted out of a pool of 47,450 applicants. By our math, that means that Stanford boasts an overall admit rate of about 4.3%, the lowest... admission rate in the university’s history. It doesn’t take a 5 on the BC Calculus exam to know that this indicates 95.7% of students who applied to be members of Stanford’s Class of 2022 found themselves on the outside looking in. As reports Stanford News in a press release about the incoming Stanford Class of 2022, Students admitted to the Class of 2022 represent all 50 states, plus Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico. Of the admitted class, 11.4 percent are international students by citizenship, representing 63 countries. The new class is 50.8 percent male and 49.2 percent femaleThe office announced an increase in the proportion of admitted students who are the first in their families to attend a four-year college rising to 18.3 percent of the admitted classThe admitted students expressed a primary academic interest across Stanford’s undergraduate schools, with 65 percent expressing interest in Humanities and Sciences programs, 30 percent in Engineering, and 3.5 percent in Earth, Energy and Environmental Sciences. The remainder were undecided.
