According to Dr. Mary Samplaski Associate Professor of Clinical Urology many male infertility websites lack information on treatment risks. Watch her interview with Urology Times here. #USCUrology #keckmedicine #keckeffect #maleinfertility

Salvage radical prostatectomy (sRP) historically yields poor functional outcomes and high complication rates. However, recent reports on robotic sRP show improved results. Our objectives were to evaluate sRP oncological outcomes and predictors of positive margins and biochemical recurrence (BCR). We retrospectively collected data of sRP for recurrent prostate cancer after local nonsurgical treatment at 18 tertiary referral centers in United States, Australia and Europe, from 2000 to 2016. USC Urology participated in this study Drs. Abreu, Aron, Berger & Gill. #USCUrology

Dear Colleagues , With this Special Issue, we hope to encourage submissions that discuss the current state-of-the-art, address ongoing knowledge gaps,... and focus on ongoing controversies related to robotic radical cystectomy in the management of #bladdercancer. Radical cystectomy is a complex surgical undertaking that often results in an extended operative stay, postoperative complications, and readmissions. Minimal invasive surgery is emerging as an alternative to the open approach with reduced postoperative pain, incisional morbidity, blood loss, transfusion rate, hospital stay, and early return of bowel function with a rapid postoperative convalescence. During the last few years, the use of robot radical cystectomy (RRC) has been growing, rising from 0.6% in 2004 to close to 40% of cystectomies in 2019 in the US. This surgical technique’s continued evolution, made possible by the introduction of robotic technology, needs standardized reporting of perioperative and survival outcomes to reflect patient and surgeon expectations following RRC. The creation of the urinary diversion (UD) after RRC is considered the most challenging step of the entire surgical procedure, and the use of extracorporeal (ECUD), totally intracorporeal (ICUD), and hybrid UD has been described in the literature for both continent and incontinent diversions Deadline for manuscript submissions: 30 September 2021. Vasectomy reversal just as successful in men over 50. When we did a statistical analysis, and examined all these other factors involved, the data showed that age had no bearing on success," said study lead investigator Dr. Mary Samplaski, a specialist who treats male infertility at Keck Medicine of the University of Southern California. #uSCUrology

Join Exosome Diagnostics, as they speak with baseball’s all-time Iron Man, Cal Ripken Jr. He is a 2007 Hall of Famer, 19-time All-Star, and two-time MVP. Recently the 21-year Major League veteran revealed that earlier this year he was diagnosed with, and successfully treated for, prostate cancer. Information to join is in the attached flyer.

September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. According to American Cancer Society, one out of nine men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime. USC Urology offers the most advanced prostate treatment including HIFU, which stands for high-intensity focused ultrasound. The procedure has been around for quite a while, but it wasn’t approved for use on prostate cancer in the U.S. until 2015. #USCUrology
