National Canine Lymphoma Awareness Day is observed each year to help draw attention to the prevalence of this deadly disease and the advances being made in treating it. Common early signs of lymphoma include enlarged lymph nodes or swelling, especially in the neck, in back of the jaw, and behind the knees. They may also lose their appetite and become lethargic. Yesterday, the U.S. Coast Guard medevaced a 55-year-old man from a commercial cargo ship more than 250 miles west of San Diego. A person aboard the vessel contacted #USCG watchstanders requesting assistance for a man who was displaying symptoms of a possible heart attack or stroke. The crew transported the patient to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla in stable condition.... #SDCoastGuardCity

#ICYMI Recently, the crew aboard the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Alert completed a 60-day living marine resources patrol along the California coast that began in late August. The patrol spanned from Humboldt County to the Southern Maritime Border with Mexico, enforcing federal, state and local policies aboard U.S. commercial fishing vessels.

Today we honor those who lost their lives 11 years ago during a tragic accident between a U.S. Coast Guard C-130 and U.S. Marine Corps Cobra Helicopter. That night, the Coast Guard lost Lt. Cmdr. Che Barnes, Lt. Adam Bryant, Chief Petty Officer John Seidman, Petty Officer 2nd Class Carl Grigonis, Petty Officer 2nd Class Monica Beacham, Petty Officer 2nd Class Jason Moletzsky and Petty Officer 3rd Class Danny Kreder, while the Marine Corps lost Maj.
