"I decided to take a chance and tell her how I felt. One of our USC Gould School of Law Alumni (official), Vincent Gonzales (JD 1987), recently shared the story of how he met his wife of 28 years in the Los Angeles Times L.A. Affairs column. Happy Valentines Day! https://lat.ms/36lhaB9
There is still a lot of work ahead of us as law schools, but it’s great to see progress being made, and steps in a positive direction.
Some of you may recognize this painting, which hangs in our north lobby. USC Gould alum Brian Washington (JD 2006) donated "We Will Never Stand Silent" while he was still a student. A self-taught artist, he said, "This piece illustrates that discrimination and prejudice have no place in our society and that we will not stand silent in the face of intolerance and bigotry of any kind. Learn more about the painting in this news article from our archive: https://gould.usc.edu/about/news/?id=25

We're counting down our top news stories of 2020. Our third most-read story is about Prof. Franita Tolson's selection as an election analyst for CNN. Her knowledge and perspective helped inform many Americans throughout this year's complicated election.
"The fact that the right to vote has been under siege in the 2020 election cycle has to be a focus of the postmortem on this election. In addition, reversing this trend of voter suppression and disenfranchisement needs to be the cornerstone of any strategy to improve our system of elections." In an op-ed in the Los Angeles Times, Prof. Franita Tolson argues for substantial electoral reforms.
As year comes to a close, we continue to take stock of what we're thankful for. Recent graduate Janet Shamilian shares why she is #GouldGrateful.
"We had an unprecedented number of people voting by mail, we're in the middle of a global pandemic, and yet we pulled off an election. Not only did we pull off an election, we pulled off an election in which more people voted in raw numbers than any election in our history. That's a huge accomplishment." Prof. Franita Tolson was interviewed about voting in the 2020 election on KPCC Take Two - at 20:37.
