There is still a lot of work ahead of us as law schools, but it’s great to see progress being made, and steps in a positive direction.

Some of you may recognize this painting, which hangs in our north lobby. USC Gould alum Brian Washington (JD 2006) donated "We Will Never Stand Silent" while he was still a student. A self-taught artist, he said, "This piece illustrates that discrimination and prejudice have no place in our society and that we will not stand silent in the face of intolerance and bigotry of any kind. Our most-read news story of 2020: The generous $2 million estate gift from educator, philanthropist and community leader Barbara Bice to further the work of the Public Interest Law Foundation, which is renamed USC Barbara F. Bice Public Interest Law Foundation.

Justin Sanders (JD 2000) and Reginald Roberts Jr. (JD 2001) were highlighted in Super Lawyers recently for their contributions to the Clarence Thompson Memorial Scholarship Fund, named in honor of USC Gould’s first Black alum, who graduated in 1900.
