The Summer Solstice happened at 11:32 p.m. Sunday and today we are watching the daylight stretch across our sundial at Appleton Hall, officially welcoming summer and the longest day of the year. We'll enjoy about 14 hours and 25 minutes of sunlight today, yet on the same day in December, it will be only 10 hours. Remember your hat and your sunscreen if you are out enjoying the sun today. Happy first day of summer! #Solstice
Meet Rusty Miller ’79 and his recently married daughter Rachael Trimboli ’10, two generations of Bulldog athletes. For Rusty, one of the joys from fatherhood was handing down his love for tennis. When Rachael was in seventh grade, they had tennis in PE. All of the kids were out sitting on the courts and the PE coach asked ‘Does anybody here know how to serve?’ After a few seconds this rather shy girl stood, grabbing the racquet. Rachael swung it back and hit a great spin s...erve perfectly in the box. The entire PE class, in unison, said ‘Wow!’ It was then that Rachael had a gift that few knew she had, eventually playing for the University of Redlands as did I. Rachael said not only did her dad teach her tennis, but also how to drive and many life lessons. The most important thing he taught me growing up is that you don’t have to be the smartest person in the room, but the hardest working, to be successful. I took that with me when I competed on the Redlands tennis team, when I graduated with my masters and even today when I bought my first home. I am so grateful to have my dad in my life. Happy Father’s Day, Bulldogs!
Meet the Hoffmans Stuart ’85, Eric ’18, and Jonathan ’22 three Bulldogs who have spent a lot of Saturdays at the LA Memorial Coliseum rooting on USC Football rain or shine. The advice Stuart has passed on to his sons is to be accountable to yourself and be accountable for your actions. Treat people with kindness and empathy and make sure you make time to enjoy yourself and relax. Make sure you can stand on your own two feet and be able to support yourself. Jonathan sa...ys another thing he learned from his dad is that the rewards one gets from college, whether they’re social or educational, are equal to the effort one puts into pursuing the opportunities available to them. A final nugget of advice comes from Eric, "Keep the big picture in mind, but take everything one step at a time." Happy Father’s Day Bulldogs!#fathersday
Meet Randy Young ’66 and Courtney Young ’13, two generations of Bulldogs celebrating Father's Day. Dads have dreams for their daughter’s future, Randy says. One of mine is based on my belief, and my experience, that it is important to do things that are satisfying and meaningful. I shared this with Courtney as she was growing up, and it has been exciting to watch her merge her creativity and artistic abilities with her strengths as an organizer and leader. I’ve also disco...vered that dads can learn from their daughters. Thank you, Courtney, for teaching me the importance of protecting our environment and living life sustainably. Courtney says, My dad has always been the most supportive person in my life and taught me to never follow the crowd and always be myself. He has pushed me to the best version of myself and told me to never give up on my dreams. I owe a lot of my success to the unconditional love and support from my dad. I love you so much. Happy Father’s Day Bulldogs! #fathersday

Just like we need teammates to win our games, we need everyone to wear a mask, wash their hands, and do their part. It only takes one person to lose the game, and the same is true in the pandemic," says Women's Assistant Volleyball Coach Kierra Jones, who, along with nine other assistant coaches, became an authorized contact tracer for the University during the pandemic.

U of R History Professor Jessie Hewitt's adorable Zoom-bombing cats have been entertaining her students. "My husband and I both teach at Redlands, and at the end of one of my online classes last week a student mentioned to the other students that they should take his class, too. I agreed and asked if she knew we were married. She responded that, yes, she had figured it out after noticing that the same cats regularly made appearances in both our classes." #NationalCatDay
