Hey music lovers! Today we’re featuring Bonnie Raitt and her sophomore or some would call it her sequel album to Nick of Time. Luck of the Draw, recorded in May of 1991, features songs like "Something to Talk About and "I Can't Make You Love Me, it was produced by Don Was and engineered/mixed by the beloved Ed Cherney. After being nominated for Grammy awards in four different categories for the album Nick of Time, Raitt went for a creative retreat in Northern Californi...a to begin work on Luck of the Draw. The album surpassed Nick of Time's commercial success, having sold seven million copies in the United States alone by 2010, and was supported by a 180-date tour from 1991 to 1993. It replicated much of her U.S. success overseas as well, selling two million in France and Italy. It remains Raitt's biggest-selling recording to date. In the liner notes, Raitt dedicated this album to blues guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan, who died in 1990 and had encouraged her to stop abusing alcohol, writing: "still burning bright".

In memory of Albert Harry Schmitt, 1930-2021. Al Schmitt was one of the most revered iconic recording engineers and producers the music industry has ever known. His nearly eighty-year career started at his Uncle Harry Smith’s recording studio in New York City at the age of nine years old. Al’s career spanned generations of recorded musical history that he was a direct participant in and helped to shape. A recipient of 23 Grammys, he helped influence what the industry is toda...y. It would be easier to name who he didn’t work with than to name the staggering amount of artists and records he was involved with over his lengthy career. United Recording is proud and honored to consider him a friend. For all of the generations that have appreciated his work over the last seventy years, it will continue to live on for the next seventy and beyond. Our thoughts and love are with his wife Lisa and his children Chris, Nick, Karen, Stephen, Al Jr., and the entire Schmitt family. God bless you all. Today we honor one of the most prolific recorded bass guitarists in rock and pop music, the official Wrecking Crew member and music icon, Carol Kaye. Carol, has played on an estimated 10,000 recordings in a career spanning over 50 years. She has recorded guitar and bass on countless songs and albums recorded here at United Recording. She’s also known for playing the twelve-string electric guitar on several Sonny & Cher songs. Carol has worked with producers like Quincy Jones..., Brian Wilson, and Lalo Schifrin. Artists like Stevie Wonder, Barbra Streisand, The Supremes, The Monkees, Frank Sinatra, Simon and Garfunkel, and of course @nancysinatra’s These Boots Are Made For Walkin.
