The amount of COVID positive patients has nearly doubled in our San Diego hospitals in the last two weeks. On Tuesday, California has its highest ever number of reported cases of 5,000 and rising. The US has grown almost to the highest numbers reported in April. We are worried that we are losing the early gains made by quarantining. #FACTS -The virus is not going away on its own -A vaccine is not likely until 2021 -We have no good treatments once people are sick... -Many people have no symptoms and some get very sick and die. Those getting very sick are becoming younger and younger -Herd immunity is unlikely without mass vaccination. Health experts estimate that over 200 million people, more than 70% of the US population would have to recover from COVID to halt the epidemic. If that many people became sick at once, it would overwhelm the healthcare system and millions of people would die. -The virus is carried in large exhaled droplets the mask can impede. You are less likely to get sick of an infected person speaks/sings/yells/coughs into a mask, from a distance, and you are wearing a mask too -There is a lot of misinformation on social media claiming low oxygen and high carbon dioxide wearing a mask. Oxygen and carbon dioxide are 1,000 times smaller than the virus and pass freely through masks. -Wear a mask. Save your life or someone else’s life. See more
